Prayer before surgery: I ask for a successful cataract surgery today 12/7/21 for myself. The medical profession has advanced this surgical procedure to where it is one of the safest and of the easiest from which to recover. Nonetheless I invoke the help of God our Father to watch over me as I go to have my vision improved with this first cataract surgery. 🙏
Loving Father, I entrust myself to your care this day; guide with wisdom and skill the minds and hands of the medical people who minister in your Name, and grant that every cause of illness be removed, I may be restored to soundness of health and learn to live in more perfect harmony with you and with those around me. Through Jesus Christ. Amen.

Praise be to God my cataract surgery went well and the 1 day post op appointment also. Dr said eye is still swollen from the procedure as to be expected but the IOL is securely in position and functioning properly. My vision is slightly blurry but colors/contrasts brighter and clearer. All totaled it was as I thought it would be and outcome as desired. Will have to wait for other eye to be done before I can be examined and prescribed new Rx lenses to accommodate my corrected vision. Right now bright sun light is too much for my eye so I feel more comfortable with wearing dark glasses or an eye patch. Arrgh and Amen! 😎 🙏
Prayer after surgery: Blessed Savior, I thank you that this operation is safely past, and now I rest in your abiding presence, relaxing every tension, releasing every care and anxiety, receiving more and more of your healing life into every part of my being. In moments of pain I turn to you for strength, in times of loneliness I feel your loving nearness. Grant that your life and love and joy may flow through me for the healing of others in your name. Amen.

Although there are some days of discomfort afterwards they all made a full recovery. I trust you will, too. I shall remember you in may prayers for the next few days. Do keep us posted about your recovery. You probably will need to be fully recovered to supervise your household's Christmas.

Hope the Divine powers heal me too. Next Novena prayer is during holy weeks of Christmas.

Thank you jcath, tth1, toddy for your prayers. I know that they were heard. It is very reassuring to have spiritual uplifting when facing medical problems however minor. toddy I pray for God's powerful healing grace to heal you of any infirmity. Prayers for the restoration of health: O Heavenly Father, God of Love, You gave us Your Son Jesus to be not only Physician of our souls but also Healer of our bodies and minds. Lord Jesus, I turn to You in this time of illness. Please come to me now, and lay Your healing hands on me. Let the warmth, peace and healing power of Your Spirit fill me now with Your life and love. I receive You, Lord Jesus. Heal me according to Your Divine Will, Lord Jesus, and enable me to serve You with a healthy body, mind and spirit. May Your joy, O Lord, be my strength this day. Amen jcath you are a sincere and constant prayer warrior. tth1 I think that I will have recovered enough by Christmas to enjoy the goings on but my days of presiding over the festivities have long since passed. I am just thankful that this year I will get to be with family. I plan to spend Christmas and the New Year with my daughter, son in law and grandkids. Then in January I'm scheduled to have cataract surgery on my other eye. The actual surgical procedure doesn't bother me but with every surgery I've had it has been difficult coming out of anesthesia/sedation. That's what is scary to me and to those attending me.

Were you speaking in general or do they give you general anaesthesia for cataract surgery? Here, you're wide awake and simply receive a local anaesthetic.

tth1 For my cataract surgery performed in an outpatient surgery center the anesthesia given is both localized onto the eyeball surface as topical anesthetic solution washed over it and then an application of a thick topical anesthetic gel. That is done prior to the administration of IV Propofol or Versed carefully titrated throughout the surgical procedure to produce a moderate anesthesia level commonly called conscious sedation. Due to my history of going deeply under with anesthesia, the nurse anesthesiologist tried to keep me away from that. She had to be told by the surgeon in spite of my previous side effects, I had to be given adequate sedation as I was tensing up in reactions to twinges of pain in my eye. Up to that point I was conscious enough to follow the conversation between the doctor and nurses. Then I seemed to be slipping in and out of consciousness and though I could hear voices, I couldn't tell you what was being said. Fortunately the anesthesiologist was able to maintain my level of consciousness above going completely under and I was able to be aroused without too much difficulty once the procedure was over. IV Versed was used instead of the Propofol since I did reach a very deep level of unconsciousness with that sedative previously. What should have been an out patient procedure wound up with me spending 24 hours in ICU under observation. Still that was an improvement over my first general anesthesia back in the mid 1970's when I was given Halothane/Pentathol and a third drug that I don't recall it's name. Surgery was a major orthodontic procedure so I was intubated through my nose. The surgery itself was very long but I spent a great deal of time in the recovery room unconscious and intubated. Gradually waking up from that and struggling against being intubated is not an experience I'd ever want to go through again. Sorry for this dissertation but it should explain my concerns about anesthesia.

What surprised me was the fact that they sedate you for this procedure. In the UK you'd have got the local anaesthetic and that's it.

Ok, here I go again after a delay of 3 months for various reasons, I am finally getting my 2nd cataract surgery tomorrow. I'll be glad when it is completed so I can be fitted for new Rx glasses to see close up. With the IOL implant in my right eye my far vision is 20/20 but need a change in my prescription eyeglass lens in order to have better near vision. St. Odilia and St. Lucy hear my prayers.
Prayer before surgery: Loving Father, I entrust myself to your care this day; guide with wisdom and skill the minds and hands of the medical people who minister in your Name, and grant that every cause of illness be removed, I may be restored to soundness of health and learn to live in more perfect harmony with you and with those around me. I was surprised to see this only today as a new post when the date on it is Holy Wednesday.
Glad you're through it now. Both done so that's the end of that.
Everyone I know who has had cataract surgery has had no problems. I shall pray your recovery will be completely uneventful.
I look forward to the day (sarcasm alert) when I need mine doing. It seems to be one of the many joys of aging and I fall into a high-risk group for developing them. I have to take steroid tablets every day to keep me alive but, oh boy, do they cause one whole plethora of other problems, cataracts probably being one of the more minor.

tth1 Ugh! Daily steroids? I know how I feel when I have to be on a Medrol dose pack for my asthma/bronchitis but that is only intermittently. Yes, having 20/20 far vision w/o glasses is rather nice. I now can see better to drive not using my old Rx glasses. My son teases me about having "bionical" eyes. He was a big fan of the 6 Million Dollar Man as a kid. Until my left eye completely heals I can't be fitted for new glasses to see clearly up close. Next optometrist appointment for that will be in May. Last appointment the Dr. said incision was healed and IOL placement looked good but still had some residual swelling from the surgery. Thanks for the prayers. I appreciate that and can never have too many of those.

My mum has taken to calling herself the Bionic Woman. My siblings and I remember the 6 Million Dollar Man. She's calling herself this because in the last twelve months she's had one shoulder joint and one hip joint surgically replaced.
