Oh yes, old people and TV is a constant thing here. The main TV in the sitting room failed here a week or two back. To be honest it was getting on a bit and was one of the first generation of flat-screen TVs. I asked how much to fix it and the quote was several hundred pounds. This was pointless and honestly, it was way too big for that room as it was a 55 inches TV so I bought a 43-inch TV. Nearly all new tellies are smart tellies and I could not find one that wasn't from a decent manufacturer. But for my father volume and on and off and changing the channels for terrestrial TV are about all he can or will learn. The BBC here do a streaming service and I used it a few times whilst chatting with my father to watch shows since and he is bemused about how I am doing this and I've tried to explain to him how streaming TV works but there is a communication gap. Especially since my dad has never had any interest in techie stuff, he gets frightened by text messages on his phone and stressed by them.
Watching things I like can be amusing, the TV in my bedroom is smaller and I only use it for late-night viewing with my wife and so I stuck on old Star Trek episodes the other day tidying up and cooking and got great comments about, 'I've never been able to understand why you like that nonsense boy.' I did pique his interest when I found several movies on Amazon in Irish though and about events in Irish history. One of which is a movie about a Catholic priest and which covers much of his life from the 1920s to the very late 1960s:
