Back on track...
Let every man be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger, for the anger of man does not work the righteousness of God. James 1:19-20 (RSV-CE)

Not a scripture quote, but rather from today's hagiographic reading (memorial of Saint Peter Damian):
From the writings of Saint Peter Damian:
"For God, divine eternity is a single day, day which no night can end, nor any morning begin. It is the day contemplated by the psalmist when he said "a day in your parvis is better than thousands of days". This is why in prophetic oracles in Scripture often the past is the future, and what must occur in the distant future is told as if it has already happened. All moments in time, in effect, are presented together under the gaze of the Divine Wisdom from which they flow: the future, the past, as well as the present stand as forever fixed and immobile under His eyes". (my own translation from my French lectionary; note that this is not the same reading of St. Peter Damian as in the 4-volume LOTH; I use the 2-year monastic lectionary).
It certainly gave me pause for meditation on the nature of the Divine, and in particular it reminded me of the prologue of St. John's Gospel:
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God; all things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."
One of the most beautiful and poetic statements in the Bible.

I like that.
I used this with the teens on Saturday night;
The fact remains...that the more absurd the human drama becomes, the more appropriate the divine drama discloses itself to be.

I enjoyed today's gospel from Mark, where Jesus asked his disciples "What were you arguing about on the way?" I would think they'd be shocked that he knew their thoughts from afar! There have been times when the Spirit has corrected me in a similar manner, yet always a gentleman. He usually imparts a question into my mind, such as, "Have YOU ever done THAT before?" When I'm criticizing someone else, He reminds me with the question that I too, have failed in charity, and I take my humble place before Him, grateful for the correction.

Now therefore fear the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness; put away the gods which your fathers served beyond the River, and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. And if you be unwilling to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Ām'orītes in whose land you dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:14-15 (RSV-CE)

If you set your heart aright, you will stretch out your hands toward him. If iniquity is in your hand, put it far away and let not wickedness dwell in your tents. Surely then you will lift up your face without blemish; you will be secure, and will not fear. You will forget your misery; you will remember it as waters that have passed away. And your life will be brighter than noonday; its darkness will be like the morning. And you will have confidence, because there is hope; You will be protected and take your rest in safety. You will lie down, and none will make you afraid; many will entreat your favor.
-Job 11:13-19 (RSV-CE)

"Do not be afraid, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name, you are mine. Should you pass through the waters, I shall be with you; or through rivers, they will not swallow you up. Should you walk through fire, you will not suffer, and the flame will not burn you."
