All regimes mentioned above form a family of left-nationalists in Asia, Africa and South America. They use local names such as Chavismo, Baathism, etc. Many of them have arisen during the decolonization wave in 1950s and 60s. All enjoyed support from the Soviet Union, which saw them as allies of communist revolution. All were viewed favourably by left-leaning intellectuals in the English-speaking world. They may have done something to alleviate poverty, but they usually have a very bad record when it comes to human rights.
Of course the English-speaking countries like any other societies and governments have moral failings, but these are typically an order of magnitude less than left-nationalist governments in Nicaragua, North Korea or Syria.
To put some philosophy into it: capitalism is liberty without equality and fraternity, while both left-nationalism and Marxism are equality and fraternity without liberty.

I deplore Marxism. I have said many times that I am a Catholic corporatist. I am not a capitalist. Not a communist. I support the establishment of a Catholic state and I look to the Iberian experience in the 20th century as a model.

I am a democratic socialist though I'm closer to neoconservative views when it comes to international issues. Our economic ideals probably have a lot in common.
