Obviously we don't do Thanksgiving over here but I rather like this image of some of my favourite comic-book characters enjoying the day:

I probably am a relic from the past because I love fruitcake but only if it comes from Collins Street Bakery in Corsicana, TX. This family owned and operated bakery has been in business since 1896. Growing up in the 1950's when my Dad was the superintendent for Ferroxcube, a ferrite manufacturer, he would receive gifts at Christmas from other companies that he did business with throughout the year. The CSB fruitcake was one such gift. It is world renowned and to receive one as a gift is regarded as a treat. They'll bake 1 million fruitcakes in a year. Here's how they advertise their top of the line bakery item. "You haven’t tried fruitcake until you’ve tried our DeLuxe® Fruitcake. It’s been featured on The Food Network, Travel Channel, History Channel, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and many more!" But due to the cost of their one of a kind fruitcakes, it is not often that I buy one for myself. If I am fortunate to get a hold of one, I'll slice it and freeze the pieces in vacuum sealed bags in order to savor it throughout the year. Here is the website if anybody is interested. Also since I'm a self proclaimed fruitcake, fan that is, I'll include a 10 minute YouTube video that goes into detail about 'unboxing' a Collins Street Bakery fruitcake, how it is produced and how to serve it. Just like Buddy on the movie Elf, this is only for Christmas nerds who think fruitcake is one of the food groups. collinstreet.com/m.youtube.com/watch?v=mJIyERBHIkw&pp=QAFIAQ%3D%3DP.S. Do not order CSB fruitcake from Amazon. Reviews on Amazon have mentioned it to be dry, stale and even moldy. Obviously they are not sending out a freshly baked fruitcake to their customers.

theguvnor BTW I think that cartoon is depicting more of a Christmas feast rather than a Thanksgiving one judging by the red Christmas Crackers on the table and the green garland strung up on the wall. Just an observation.

No fruit cake for me, ever. Well until society collapses and I need food stuffs that will last forever, then I guess I couldn't be picky. And no black Friday shopping for me either. Spent most of the day on the saw mill, even let my son run it some. Would much rather be doing this stuff than being around a bunch of people any day.

Black Friday shopping is an excuse for retailers to offload stuff on you from the stockroom. I never bother with it.
