My mother has been admitted to hospital as an emergency on Friday. I was obviously concerned but not to concerned. Yesterday, my concern went into high orbit after a doctor rang me* to inform me they were putting a 'Do Not Resuscitate' (DNR) order on her medical records. I objected but apparently under English Law my objection can be noted but is worthless. Treatment cannot be imposed without your consent but no form of treatment can be demanded or is a right. Therefore, a doctor can put a DNR on your notes without anyone's consent.
How do I feel? The only way I can answer that is by the single word, 'numb'. I'm now frightened I've seen my mum for the last time*. So I'd be grateful for any prayers for her wellbeing.
*Under rules in force in England no one from the family is allowed into the hospital to visit my mother. If she were definitely known to be dying the legal next-of-kin only could spend 30 minutes at her bedside. I have to wonder what the point of the vaccines are. I'm fully vaccinated, so is mum and so is my sister. If mum was dying we could hardly cause her any further harm by visiting her.

tth1 I'm praying that the dire predictions of your mother's doctor does not come to pass. It is stressful enough to know that a loved one is that seriously ill but also to be unable to physically be there is unbearable. My mother made me promise that if she took a turn for the worse that I would not call for an ambulance to take her to the hospital. At age 94 & 1/2 years she died at home in her own bed with my daughter and myself at her side. It wasn't an easy promise to keep. Perhaps if you knew that your mother did not want any medical intervention to be performed in case of a serious medical condition, it might be less difficult to deal with the DNR order from the doctor. That a family member has no say in this matter and is unable to even be with their loved ones seems harsh and inhumane. Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers. Prayer for Fortitude: taken from the Book of Catholic Prayers Dear Jesus, Lay your Wounded Hand Upon my weary head, And teach me to have courage In the paths that I must tread. Bless me, and bless those whom I love, And give us grace to see These crosses bravely borne by us Will keep us close to Thee. And if at times a shadow falls In unexpected ways, Put Your gentle Hand in mine And guide me through the days. So bless my people, one and all, With Thy protecting grace, And impart to them Thy Wisdom Ere they meet Thee face to face.

So sorry about your predicament. These are strange times which we live and have to deal with regarding hospitalizations and family.
Will be praying for your mother and your family that she may recover and you and your family will be able to enjoy more time with her.

tth1 Continued prayers for your mother confined to the hospital. May she be comforted by those caring for her and know that she is loved by her family and friends who are unable to be with her. I ask this in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen +:-| Watch, O Lord, with those who wake, or watch, or weep tonight, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend your sick ones, O Lord Christ. Rest your weary ones. Bless your dying ones. Soothe your suffering ones. Pity your afflicted ones. Shield your joyous ones. And for all your love's sake. Amen. Thank you so much to those who have been praying for my dear mother. Your prayers are working; not that I had any doubt they would. My mother is not fully recovered but has been discharged from hospital and is in an intermediate care facility. Hopefully, she will be well enough to come home soon. Please keep praying because you get wonderful results!
I'm hoping with the relaxation of the regulations in England we will be able to visit her soon. Currently, she has to be in isolation for 14 days. It's like being ppunished for a crime you didn't commit.

tth1 So glad to hear that positive update concerning your mother's condition. I've been praying for her, farronwolf's mother and those who are ill, isolated and feel alone. Last night I prayed my first ever Chaplet to St. Raphael for those intentions and will do so again tonight. It is certainly a different type of Chaplet and even though it consists of 12 beads it isn't that long of a devotion. If interested then I will post it. I myself am now trapped inside a COVID household. My 2 grandkids tested positive on home tests last night. My daughter and her husband also aren't feeling well but they don't have any more home tests to do. The family went away last weekend over the MLK holiday to visit with my son in law's family. I remained in their home. Monday night my 6 year old granddaughter didn't feel well. Tuesday morning she had URI symptoms and an elevated temperature. My 9 year old grandson felt fine and went to school. Mid morning my daughter was called to pick him up because he had some minor symptoms. Both staid out of school on Wednesday when my daughter took me to the Pain Center for a scheduled hip bursa injection. That night when the COVID test was done it popped up positive immediately. I was p!anning on going back home NLT Friday. I've been with them since the beginning of December to get cataract surgeries completed. They live in a more metropolitan area than I do with greater access to specialty physicians and clinics. I am asymptomatic at the moment but know that could change quickly. Grandkids don't act like they feel bad at all. Very active! My daughter and son in law feel achy tired, have sore throats and generally are puny. Since I am the well one in the household, I made a big pot of chicken soup, the universal and generational panacea for whatever ails you. Prayers for all to stay well. 🙏

tth1 I will continue to pray for your mother, and hope that it is soon that you all can spend time with her in person. To the aged especially, being isolated is devastating.
RN69, I will pray for your family that you all continue to have mild symptoms and that you all will soon be back to normal. On the positive side, you get to spend time with your grandchildren, well hopefully that is positive.

I'm feeling rather jealous (a sin I know) and can almost smell that chicken soup. When I was a child and ill and couldn't face food my mum always gave us tomato soup, which I still regard as a comfort food. However, I do love chicken soup.
Many of the rules here in England are being lifted all of a sudden. I'm not convinced that decision is based on the science. Our Prime Minister Doris (as many of us call him) Johnson is fighting for his job and we believe he's lifting the restrictions to bolster his popularity.
Are you having the same problem we are: getting hold of testing kits? I can't get them anywhere. My sister ordered some, I'm not sure from where and brought them to us on Wednesday. Then before we could stop here she was doing our housework. My wife has pulled a muscle in her back. Despite our protests she did it saying we do plenty for her. It was very kind of her and meant I didn't have to do it on getting home from work. She really is a wonderful person.

tth1 Thanks for the kind words and prayers. Both are appreciated. Yes we also have difficulty finding COVID tests either at home ones or sites to have the tests done. Demand exceeds the supply. My daughter and son in law had bought several previously before they were hard to find. I got one BinaxNOW CV19 test kit in preparation for my December cataract surgery. I didn't have to use it until now. I tested positive on Friday night. Like the rest of my family the symptoms are mild. For me there's been no fever, no body aches, not even cold symptoms. I've feel very tired and listless have a raw feeling in my upper respiratory tract and throat plus feel as though I could cough up a hair ball even though I am not congested. I have felt worse during my numerous bronchitis and pneumonia illnesses that I've experienced throughout my life time. Lord willing it won't get any worse. Your sister sounds like a very caring person. Family is the best gift God has given to us. I feel blessed to be able to be with mine even sharing this COVID experience. It's much better than going it alone. Our government through the USPS is supposed to be delivering to those who have signed up to receive them, free COVID test kits. I don't know if there will be enough to go around but that is what has been promised starting the end of January. We shall see. All politicians tell you what they think that you want to hear whether it is true or not. I doubt yours and mine are much different. I prefer to put my trust in the Lord

All politicians tell you what they think that you want to hear whether it is true or not. I doubt yours and mine are much different. I prefer to put my trust in the Lord I am sorry to hear you have COVID. I never know whether I have had it or not. My wife and I tested positive for it in Octoner 2020 but neither of us had any symptoms. I don't even reall why we tested. Our doctor insists that the tests gave the correct results although it is known no test is ever 100% accurate. It seems strange that in March 2020 my doctor was telling me to almost put myself into isolation because if I got COVID I would be seriously ill and in intensive care with a very poor prognosis. Cheerful chap isn't he? So I don't know.
At least the science is saying that a COVID infection plus the vaccines, prior to or after infection, give the best possible immunity. So let's pray your sumptoms do not get any worse and I shall certainly pray they get better. I shall add more to St Raphael's workload over the next few days. Luckily, I write down whom I am praying for or I think I might forget. I do always ask God to take into account those I may have forgotten and all others in the world needing our prayers.
Oh yes, I'm sure our politicians are almost certainly very much the same as they are the world over. I most definitely put my trust in the Lord. Indeed, my trust is now so lacking in politicians that I didn't vote in our last election.
