As I continue to recover from COVID, my throat still feels raw and sore. I wanted to find a video showing the blessing of the throats to at least have a virtual blessing. There are several videos about this Catholic ritual belief, some more current than others. I chose one from 2017 given by Bishop Robert Reed presented by the Catholic TV Network to post here. Below is an excerpt from a church's website, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Lake Ridge, VA. It says to light a candle in memory of St. Blaise, so I will do that also. After all it is our belief in the power of prayer that effects the changes we seek from God through the intersession of the saints and angels. Blessings to all on this feast day of St. Blaise especially to those who are suffering from ailments of the throat.
(On the Feast Day of St. Blaise, (Feb. 3) the Church recalls a miracle cure associated with him and celebrates the blessing of the throats with candles. St. Blaise apparently saved the life of a boy who was choking on a fish bone.
St. Blaise said that anyone who lit a candle in his memory would be free of infection, thus candles are used in the traditional throat blessing. The candles (blessed on Candlemas Feb. 2) are crossed against the throat, and the following prayer is said:
“Through the intercession of Saint Blaise, bishop and martyr, may God deliver you from ailments of the throat and from every other evil. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.“)
