onepeterfive.com/abp-pozzo-on-sspx-disputed-vatican-ii-documents-are-non-doctrinal/I would welcome the creation of a personal prelature for the SSPX, and very well might affiliate myself with it. Their nearest chapel is over two hours away from me, but there are many SSPX-sympathetic Catholics near me, some of whom (myself included) assist at the diocesan TLM in our area --- and thus accept the validity of the Novus Ordo and the post-Vatican II priestly ordinations, otherwise they wouldn't be receiving reserved sacrament there --- and some don't, and there is always the possibility of making the SSPX available closer to home. If not, relocating is always a possibility --- once my son turns 18, we can live anywhere we want to (custody issues), and it's pretty country up that way, I wouldn't mind having some land in the foothills.

I think it would be very confusing for Pope Francis to give the SSPX their own persona prelature. If he did one presumes they could continue to reject those teachings of Vatican II they don't like and that the could continue to celebrate Mass, the Office, the sacraments, etc. in the Extraordinary Form. However, the pope issued an apostolic letter in July 2021 criticising those who reject Vatican II and are attached to the Extraordinary Form. If the Pope gave the SSPX a personal prelature wouldn't he be contradicting Traditionis Custodes?

However, the pope issued an apostolic letter in July 2021 criticising those who reject Vatican II and are attached to the Extraordinary Form. If the Pope gave the SSPX a personal prelature wouldn't he be contradicting Traditionis Custodes? You'd have to ask him. He has treated the SSPX with much more respect than one would expect, and he hasn't moved to rescind the various faculties that he has granted them. I have a pet theory that his "long game" is eventually to make the SSPX the exclusive custodian of the pre-Vatican II forms and rites, possibly in conjunction with "fellow travelers" such as the FSSP. The whole point of the interview is that, according to the archbishop, some elements of Vatican II deal with pastoral practice, i.e., how to implement, present, and even interpret certain teachings, rather than doctrine which might develop but cannot change from "X is true" to "X is false". Seen that way, then, it is not a deal-killer for this group or that, such as the SSPX, to point out that there could be some problems with that pastoral practice. Practical recommendations as to how to engage separated Christians and non-Christians, for instance, do not rise to the level of doctrine. This level of discourse goes all the way back to St Peter and St Paul.
