Mementō, homō, quia pulvis es. (Remember, man, that thou art dust.)

I went to Mass at lunchtime. Today my ashes weren't rubbed off. I once went at lunchtime and on return to work before I could stop them a colleague rubbed them off saying did you know you had a dirty mark on your forehead. I felt rather sorry for them after I explained yes I knew and explained why the 'dirty mark' was there. They were most apologetic.

tth1 LOL! I guess that your co-worker received ashes in a covert maner. You must have gotten just a thumb smudge rather than a cross. I am still homebound as is my sister so as I was up rather early this morning decided to find a meme depicting receiving ashes and sent it to her. My son is away on a business trip. I am pretty sure that he'll seek out a Catholic church to go to Mass and receive ashes if possible but sent it to him along with this reading. Might have woke him up since he is out on the west coast of the United States and I'm closer to the east coast. Ash Wednesday Lectionary: 219 Reading I Jl 2:12-18 Even now, says the LORD, return to me with your whole heart, with fasting, and weeping, and mourning; Rend your hearts, not your garments, and return to the LORD, your God. For gracious and merciful is he, slow to anger, rich in kindness, and relenting in punishment. Perhaps he will again relent and leave behind him a blessing, Offerings and libations for the LORD, your God.

The priest is not a perfectionist like this:
