Someone at TOP stated in a thread that very few people pray the rosary, do the Stations of the cross, or even pray as a family anymore. Catechists in churches don't even teach about Our Lady anymore. ?? !!!!!! What? ? I find this opinion very disturbing. What say you all?

Considering the source, it's simply another of her saturating rants. A huge thread yesterday was pulled by Bay, as he was the only one on line at the time it disappeared. I hope Don Ruggero saw it incognito. It was disgraceful. Some of our own members here participated, and it was very discouraging, to say the least.

I participated. It's the male poster I took issue with. The other woman posts the same topic daily. I don't read her. IF that's even the person you are referring to. I find I often have to just not read certain things, LOL. It's seldom worth the mental anxiety.

That woman is the thread that got a huge number of replies. In one day, nearly 175. It was nothing but bickering, and I don't doubt that someone reported it. Folks weren't very kind to her, understandably (except her pet friends). My old friend, a Carmelite, had posted a stern message to her, and when I saw his post, I jumped in and gave him a thumbs up. Well that did it. We both got jumped on! And as you might guess, she posted another thread today. She saturates that forum with her obsession - but I'll admit it wasn't as bad as the guy who was admonished by the priest - almost, though.

My family and I never prayed together growing up. My husband and I have prayed the rosary together in the past, but we usually pray separately and alone. As for stations of the cross, I used to go every year growing up but haven't in several years....

Our Stations are pretty well attended. Of course we have a free meal beforehand. But many people come for the stations alone. We have a small parish, and typically get 125 people for the Stations. The Hispanic group walk the Stations that are outdoors, rather than the ones in the Church, and they have about 75 people show up. t I was kind of offended originally, because I worked as DRE at a Catholic school for ten years, and I can say that while I was there at least, the rosary was a big part of the life of the students. That Catholic school has since declined at an alarming rate ( bad leadership and VERY high tuition) and I gave heard from many parents and students alike that religion seems to be on the back burner. It's really too bad. But the school tends to see themselves as private schools first, and Catholic schools, secondary.

I think such sweeping statements are either a manifestation of spiritual pride or insecurity, to be honest. It is true that many of us do grow lukewarm from time to time and do need a little "kick". I certainly do - that's what Lent is for! However, it's a bit unfair to generalize about a large number of people whom you don't know, especially in a public forum. As for Marian devotion and catechesis, I can confirm that it's still alive and kicking in my corner of the world. Also, MODERATOR NOTEPlease don't name members from any other online forum, especially a Catholic one, and discuss them here. While the discussion in this thread has been harmless so far, there is always the scope for a derailment, and we don't want to see the kind of inter-board sniping that has made some other Catholic forums a hotbed of savage detraction.

LOL, that's for sure!
I think many people have devotions that they keep strictly private....meaning I don't go around telling people what all I do or don't do on a daily basis. If someone asks me about something, that's different altogether bcuase maybe they are looking fro a suggestion, something, a different perspective, whatever. Mostly I never think I'm praying enough, but my prayers tend to be spontaneous, conversations with God or my guardian angel os ....((sigh)) Padre Pio, because I'm always pestering him.
