I'm drawing a blank, sorry to say. Theirs is a spirituality, rather than a philosophy to help persons with mental disorders. The first and most important step on a person's journey to God is metanoia - without that, most prayer efforts fall short and have little ability to maintain attentiveness to God.

I would think it would help with low mood and low level anxiety. Im not a dr. But its calming to read and pray with the Carmelite saints.

I would think any form of spirituality can be a cure for anxiety. Psychology/psychiatry is the secular worlds response to filling the void of the confessional, once God and His sacramental church was removed from the life of the secular person. What therapists and medication combat today, confessors and penances fought yesterday. This isn't true across the board, of course. There are many legitimate mental health conditions that you can't simply pray away (under any normal circumstances). But I think a lot of people who struggle with depression and anxiety, attempting to amend their life and pursue a sacramental life in God would make all the difference for their mental and emotional health.

It depends on what you mean by "Carmelite Spirituality?" Wrongly understood, it could create scrupulosity which is not good for mental health. Understood correctly, the person would've begun the ascent with good mental health to begin with. FYI, I'm a professed Secular Order Discalced Carmelite OCDS.

The Lord will help you with your mental health illness. The Lord needs you to express your thoughts in a journal in order to get down to the root cause of your fear. He needs you to surrender your fear to Him. He accepts you, and you need to accept you as His child. When you surrender all to Him, and get to a place where you know that He loves you for you, the mental illness will improve. My mental health illness improved when He took away the power of the fear that was over me. I am discerning the married life to my future husband, and if this is His will for me, it will come in His perfect time.

Without going into the masterpiece of interior Castle..the more you pray, the less you are distracted. That becomes no distraction in prayer. Evenuaĺy at the 4th mansion that is moot.

Also, the mansions are a good barometor of where you stand.
The first 3 are purgatorive, cleansing of your soul.this is surface prayer.
1st mansion equals people who want to get close to God in prayer, but as St. Terese says, the reptiles and such are all around you to distract from prayer.
2nd mansion..you are persistant in prayer and the repttiles (Distractions) are fewer but still there.
3rd mansion is prayer to God without the reptiles bothering you.(no distraction.)
Next 4, 5, 6 are illumitive prayer in next mansions in which God reaches out to you .
I could go on, but the consolations to be persistant prayer brings peace, gentleness and calmness. I believe St.Terese is trying to convey this.
What is interesting is you can move through the mansions...say you are in third, you can slip to 2nd. You can also start at 3. Hope this makes sense.
I feel calm praying. For more serious illness i would talk to a priest/psycologist
