My son and his family are currently on a 2 week tour of Italy. Yesterday they were granted an outdoors general audience to see Pope Francis and receive his Papal blessing. For my grandson who just graduated from JPII Catholic High School, it was his second Papal audience. In 2006 my son was assigned to work in Italy and both his wife and young son were able to join him. While my son had to work Mon thru Fri, my daughter in law got to explore Rome and of course took their 1 year old son along. She was able to secure a Papal audience which was held indoors being it was during the winter months. She was seated among a group of nuns and when Pope Benedict XVI appeared, the nuns motioned for her to pass her son to them. One of them held him up and he received a blessing from the Pope directed towards him.
My daughter in law is an avid photographer and posts daily in a Google album so family and friends back home are able to follow their travels. They left for Italy over the Memorial Day weekend and due to the many flight cancellations in the U.S. they almost weren't able to make the necessary connections for the flight to Milan. Their flight to JFK was cancelled and in order to catch the plane to Milan they had to drive to another airport and take a flight to D.C. then drive to JFK. Once at JFK the airlines told them that their 13 year old daughter couldn't board because she didn't have the 3rd COVID shot! Luckily there was a mobile CV19 testing bus parked outside of the terminal that she was able to use to provide proof of being negative for COVID which allowed her to board. They have been planning on this trip over the past two years and thought that they had made all of the necessary arrangements. When these snafus showed up my DIL texted me and her mother requesting prayers to help them get to Italy on time and safely. It started out a bit chaotic but so far everything else has gone well. 🙏
