The only one who could convince you is God himself. I'll pray that happens. Then He's got some work to do. May be you are too busy demanding proof that God loves you that you do not see it when He does. I am reminded of the following tale by your words.
After very heavy rains the area was severely flooded. A man, whose house was flooded up to the bedrooms, was sat on his roof. Firemen came along in a boat and tried to rescue him but he refused saying he believed in God and he knew God would rescue him. Later a rescue team in a helicopter hovered over his house but he refused to be winched to safety telling the rescue team that he knew God would rescue him.
After being stuck on his roof for some considerable time the man finally cried out plaintively, "God why wouldn't you rescue me"? God replied to him saying, "I did send a boat and a helicopter"!
Sometimes, we cannot see God's love because we want to test Him and expect Him to do something the way we perceive He should. Maybe if you looked at what was happening in your life honestly you would find God shows you His love in many ways.

Part of the process of funeral masses is to help deal with the grief as Bear notes. Now, not everyone needs that but many people do. My wife's Church and the Eastern Catholic Churches have as part of their rituals the following:- www.funeralguide.co.uk/help-resources/arranging-a-funeral/religious-funerals/orthodox-funeralsThe whole process provides closure for people and allows them to move on. As do rituals in Western Christianity, they allow people to express their grief and come to terms with it and move past it. They also express the hope that this is not the final reality as noted above. I read the article you linked. I would like to ask is it correct in what it says about how the Eastern Orthodox view Heaven and Hell?

I have looked honestly into what is happening in my life and that is the reason I feel the way I do. If God loves me I'm not seeing it and I'm certainly not feeling it.
