I ask everyone here to join me in prayer for the salvation, repose, and swift entry into Heaven of my dear father, who left us one year ago today (22 July 2021). His 30 Gregorian Traditional Latin Masses are scheduled to begin in the next few days, if they haven’t already.
His name is Frank. He was a thoroughly decent man who loved his family with his whole heart, and heroically provided for our welfare as long as he was able. Towards the end, he could no longer consume food, and he struggled to get and keep down liquid nutrition drinks. The day he died, I told him that I could see what he was doing (he could no longer speak or communicate in any meaningful way), he was trying to force down his drinks so that he could live until the first of the month, to get another month’s worth of Social Security and his pensions. I told him that if he needed to go, you don’t have to keep suffering, you don’t have to keep putting yourself through that, it was okay, make your peace with God, we would be fine, he didn’t have to make himself live for our benefit.
He died a couple of hours later.
Pray also for my mother (91), who has never gotten over it, and never will.

homeschooldad In remembrance of your beloved Father I will pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet. May he rest in peace. Amen. Lord, in Your kindness we beseech You to look with mercy on the soul of Your servant Frank. Grant him now a place of every lasting safety in Your heavenly presence. We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen. Prayer for the loss of a loved one: Lord, surround the grieving and bring them Your comfort and healing grace. Amen

May your father rest in the peace of God. I had a similar experience with my father 3 years ago. He was in palliative care and seemed to be 'hanging on'. A lovely nurse told me that sometimes they need to hear your permission to let go. Before I left that night at 11pm I told Dad that we will all be taking care of Mum and he needn't worry about that. Just as I got home half an hour later, we were rung to say he had died.

O God, Whose property is ever to have mercy and to spare, we beseech Thee on behalf of the soul of Thy servant Frank whom Thou hast called out of this world; look upon him with pity and let him be conducted by the holy angels to paradise, his true country. Grant that he who believed in Thee and hoped in Thee may not be left to suffer the pains of the purgatorial fire but may be admitted to eternal joys. Through Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Our Lord, Who with Thee and the Holy Ghost liveth and reigneth world without end. Amen. Eternal rest give unto him, 0 Lord; and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.
May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
