Thank you for the prayers Stella. Wasn't sure if I would be in Ian's path or not with that monster storm roaring up the Gulf but I'll be safe. My older sister on the other hand lives in central FL near Cocoa on the Space Coast. She has a daughter and family who lives near by but otherwise is on her own. She's partially disabled with multiple medical conditions and gets panic attacks. Even though the brunt of the hurricane won't go over her town, she is inside of the cone of Ian's path and on what is called the dirty side. The eastern side of a hurricane usually spawns multiple tornadoes from the thunderstorm bands. It won't be all clear for her until about 5 AM Thursday. This is one of the prayers that I have been praying for all of those in the path of Ian.
This chaplet has an Our Lady Star of the Sea medal on the end, but a small shell could be substituted, if one wanted to make a knotted cord chaplet. Here is the prayer to say on the medal or shell:
Most beautiful Flower of Mount Carmel, Fruitful Vine, Splendor of Heaven, Blessed Mother of the Son of God, Immaculate Virgin, assist me in this my necessity. O Star of the Sea, help me and show me herein you are my Mother, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth, I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart, to help me in this necessity; there are none that can withstand your power.
This is followed by three beads leading to a circle of twelve beads. On each of the first three beads, say one Our Father, one Hail Mary and One Glory Be. On each of the twelve beads of the circle, pray the following:
Our Lady, Star of the Sea, help and protect us! Sweet mother I place this cause in your hands.
From Our Lady Star of The Sea, Morgan City, Louisiana
A favorite way to end the Chaplet to Mary Star of the Seas devotion is to use the Searfarersโ Prayer written by Pope John Paul II.
O Mary, Star of the Sea, light of every ocean, guide seafarers across all dark and stormy seas that they may reach the haven of peace and light prepared in Him who calmed the sea.
As we set forth upon the oceans of the world and cross the deserts of our time, show us, O Mary, the fruit of your womb, for without your Son we are lost.
Pray that we will never fail on lifeโs journey, that in heart and mind, in word and deed, in days of turmoil and in days of calm, we will always look to Christ and say, โWho is this that even wind and sea obey him?โ
Bright Star of the Sea, guide us!

Here is another protection prayer specifically for this area of the southern U.S.
Prayer for protection from a hurricane: O God, Master of this passing world, hear the humble voices of your children. The Sea of Galilee obeyed Your order and returned to its former quietude. You are still the Master of land and sea. We live in the shadow of a danger over which we have no control: the Gulf, like a provoked and angry giant, can awake from its seeming lethargy, overstep its conventional boundaries, invade our land, and spread chaos and disaster. During this hurricane season we turn to You, O loving Father. Spare us from past tragedies whose memories are still so vivid and whose wounds seem to refuse to heal with passing of time. O Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our beloved Mother, we ask you to plead with your Son in our behalf, so that spared from the calamities common to this area and animated with a true spirit of gratitude, we will walk in the footsteps of your Divine Son to reach the heavenly Jerusalem where a stormless eternity awaits us. Amen.

How has your sister and her family fared, RN? The reporters for our networks are in Tampa and Port Charlotte and it looks like a real mess and it's still moving across the inland.

I just got off the phone with my sister and she said to say thank you for the prayers. She's okay, her daughter and family also okay and it appears that houses are too. They are under flash flood warnings and watches until Friday due to amount of rain not the storm surge like the Gulf coast of FL had. That is devastating. God please be with those who lost so much. It seems that the eye of Ian did pass close to their community in the middle of the night but it had been down graded to a Cat 1 or 2. Even so it's truly a miracle that they came through this unhurt. They've been advised not to use washer, dishwasher, run a shower or even flush toilet because of amount of water already in the streets/sewers can't handle it. It may take 48 hours or more before water levels subside. So far they still have their power on but that's iffy at this point. The power grid and utility companies in FL are under a great deal of stress. My sister had to pre-medicate herself with an anti-anxiety med to prevent heart palpitations and panic attack. She blessedly slept through the worst of it all. I didn't! I was up watching the Weather Channel and praying. My gratitude to Our Lady, Our Blessed Savior, and to the Archangels Michael, Raphael and Gabriel whose feast day is today 9/29 for the prayers answered. ๐๐๐

I have to stay I'm glad I live in place where we never experience the worst excesses of nature or geological events. I feel sorry for those who lose their homes because of them or even worse their lives. I'm praying for anyone who has been or may affected by Hurricane Ian.

Just looking at Florida on a map, a big chunk of it looks so exposed and vulnerable almost like an island out in the Atlantic.
