Please pray for the cause of Mother Mary Joseph of Jesus (known in the world as Elizabeth Prout) from my diocese. Mother Mary Joseph worked in the slums of the city Manchester (NW England, UK), during the Industrial Revolution in the nineteenth century, in the Diocese of Salford. She founded a religious congregation, the Sisters of the Cross and Passion, now found worldwide but still with their generalate in Salford.
Her cause has been accepted by the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints. Servant of God Mary Joseph of Jesus has miracles attributed to her for curing two terminally ill individuals. The Dicastery is currently investigating these. Please pray for our Diocese to acquire another saint and for the Sisters of the Cross and Passion to have their founder canonised.

Have any miracles been attributed to Br Walfrid? As you know living a life of heroic virtue is not sufficient. If Celtic get involved then his cause won't lack financial support.

I'm not sure Celtic would push for a canonization. Given the er, rivalry, yeah let's call it that, between Celtic and Rangers, I think Celtic would probably stay clear of that. People would start trying to make a lot of political capital on that. Most people in London sadly don't realize Brother Walfrid was active here in the East End of London for a time as well and did sterling work here in addressing poverty in deprived areas.

Father if it is your will may you grant Elizabeth Prout to be a saint through the process of canonization. In your name, Jesus amen!

I just looked up Sister Mary Joseph of Jesus (Elizabeth Prout) and noticed she’s already been declared a Venerable by the Vatican as of July 2021. So she is no longer “Servant of God Sister Mary Joseph” but rather, “Venerable Sister Mary Joseph”.
Prayers for her beatification, which would be the next step.

I know that the Bishop of Shrewsbury, the Rt Rev Mark Davies (one of the finest bishops in England and Wales), is a strong supporter of this movement and I hope that the Diocese of Salford start to promote it, though I notice, unsurprisingly, that a search of its web page produces no result for “Elizabth Prout”. The Archdiocese`s of Liverpool and Southwark should also join in, but again, I wont hold my breath. So the prayers of the faithful Catholic laity are of great importance in this cause.
The Wikipedia entry is quite detailed (and includes a photo of Elizabeth Prout)

I wish I had saved the article I read about the Venerable Sister Mary Joseph of Jesus. It said her cause had just been lodged with the Vatican. If I had I could look at it again. However, I certainly do not mind being wrong on this and am glad her canonisation process is one step further on than I thought. I am happy to learn that she has passed the first hurdle and Pope Francis has declared she lived a life of heroic virtue. Now I shall be praying for her beatification. I do know two miracles have been claimed for her. I think one is required for beatification and a second for canonisation. If the Vatican's investigations accept that both claimed miracles are indeed miracles and they can be attributed to the Venerable Sister Mary Joseph of Jesus she should soon be beatified and possibly not long after canonised. Please let's pray for her beatification and hope the Sisters of the Cross and Passion have their founder beatified then canonised.

The article might have had some kind of confusion. I am always reading stuff about the sainthood process that is not quite correct and sometimes it's even on Catholic media which should know better.
In any event, looks like she is well on her way down the path. If she did a lot of work with the poor she has a leg up on the canonization process, as the Vatican currently seems to heavily favor candidates whose main activity was social justice work.

I'm very glad to see that her cause as advanced as this woman would have saved many Irish people from starving to death. The order she founded was so strapped for funds at points that the sisters were reduced to begging themselves. Father Ignatius Spencer who I mentioned above has been declared venerable. He amusingly intersects with Cardinal Newman's life before Cardinal Newman became Catholic and Cardinal Newman at that point wouldn't talk to him as he regarded him as having departed from Anglicanism and been heretical. Which in retrospect is droll, Newman later apologized to him for this it should be noted. Father Spencer is actually buried next to Elizabeth Proust.
