Not a lot here we don't already know, but his comment that the "progressives" see "dialogue" as leading in one direction and one direction only (theirs) is very true. I have found in such people, both in religious and secular spheres, that there is an unshakeable faith that sooner or later, everyone will come around to their point of view, that they are anointed to lead us all into a bright and sunny future. They don't have much in the way of self-doubt.
