www.lifesitenews.com/news/papal-preacher-claims-clericalization-prevented-latin-mass-from-being-truly-a-liturgyI believe in being fair-minded and presenting all sides of an argument, and here, mirabile dictu, evidently so does LifeSiteNews. First time for everything... One does have to wonder, though, where the Holy Ghost was for almost a millennium or more, between the very early days of the Mass of the Roman Church, and the era of Vatican II. To imply that "the Church started out okay, but then she drifted into error (even if it was only an "error" in how Mass should be offered, rather than an error in faith, doctrine, dogma, or morality), and now we're bringing things back full circle" smacks of Protestantism, or for that matter, the thinking of the LDS and the Jehovah's Witnesses. Not good. Imagine what it could have been like, if the TLM had been translated into the vernacular, not just in isolated missionary efforts, but across the boards, with the prayers left intact, as opposed to having Bugnini's chain saw taken to it. Global Southerners, who have no concept of a "Mass that's too long", could have made hay with an elaborated, soulful, deeply spiritual Mass in which the concept of Mass-as-Sacrifice is reiterated time and again as a leitmotif. Imagine what sub-Saharan Africans could have done with it. Incidentally, it's kind of ironic that "Cantalamessa" means, literally, "sing the Mass".

He's a big promoter of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal so his idea of a proper Mass is probably a whole churchful of people singing it in tongues with gestures and dancing. He's also 88 years old so he'll be off down the yellow brick road soon.
