The prisoner of conscience, Metropolitan Pavel (Lebed) wrote a letter to the monks of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, the monastery he has led since 1994.
Address to the brethren from the place of imprisonment
Metropolitan Pavel
Peace be with you, beloved fathers and brothers!
I am writing to you from the Lukyanovsky pre-trial detention center in Kiev, where the brethren of our Holy Lavra were imprisoned in the 1920s and 30s. They demanded from me that we leave the Lavra in order to hand you and your relatives over to the Security Service of Ukraine for blackmail and inspections in the future, which I did not do.
All accusations are complete lies. Evil witnesses, including from the brethren, can not put anything in my accusation. The lawyers are very capable, but no one listens to them. I testify to this because in my corps are all political prisoners. The judge's decisions have been prepared long ago. The prosecutor, investigator, and judge are the same troikas that once tried Mikhail Semyonovich Litvinenok and other confessors and martyrs of the faith. I heard in the pre-trial detention center on the corridor that I am under special supervision: three locks and, apparently, the keys are with different people, controlled by the first man of the country.
I very much ask for your holy prayers. You do not need extraneous vicar, we have all the brothers are worthy, only do everything by blessing, patiently and with deep faith, then the Lord, the Mother of God and the Venerable Fathers will not leave you or me poor. They wanted to forbid me not only not to enter the Holy Lavra, but also to enter any temple, apparently, of the whole long-suffering Ukraine. I am a man of the Holy Church, a believer, with God's help I will endure everything.
I call God's blessing on all of you. My joy after Jesus Christ, Mother of God and the Fathers of Kiev-Pechersk is you.
May God protect you all.
Your miserable prisoner and prayer-worker,
+М. Pavel
I love and appreciate you all very much, I thank God for everything.
