There is a kind of mold, serratia marcescens, that appears on bread, and is red in color, if one didn't know better, they'd think it was blood. I have read that some supposed Eucharistic miracles are, in fact, manifestations of this mold.
What brought this to mind, was when I was preparing dinner (from leftovers) and coveted a large slice of cornbread that I thought was still good... until I turned it over and saw a large spot that, I'm assuming, was this kind of mold. I had to make do with some echt German pumpernickel (makes the most delicious fried egg and ham sandwiches you will ever eat).
While I'm all in favor of Eucharistic miracles, sometimes they're not miracles at all.
(But some are. When scientists are able to analyze them and find cardiac muscle tissue, yes, that has to be a miracle. But bread mold, that's no miracle, just a natural phenomenon.)
