Totally cringeworthy. I know quite a lot about Judaism but no amount of knowledge will make me Jewish. So it just looks silly and as though people are playing around when doing this stuff. The intent may be noble but the execution would be odd I think. I agree with you 100%. It is very embarassing.

So what does the phrase "all Israel" mean here? It's a figure of speech known as synecdoche, taking the whole to refer to a part. It's like saying that "all Jerusalem" came out to hear John the Baptist. Does that mean that every inhabitant of Jerusalem went to the Jordan to hear John, and the entire city was deserted? No, but a lot of Jerusalemites did go; thus the use of synecdoche. There are a lot of figures of speech in the Bible, and identifying them is one step in the process of learning how to interpret the Biblical text. In this case, "all" doesn't necessarily always mean "all". Dxx

Another example is the bit where it says no-one is righteous. Plainly there are some examples in the Bible of people who are but the main point is that the vast majority of mankind is not righteous.

PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT ASK any more questions about Judaism, it is VERY Offensive to Jews, EVEN on a Catholic site. Please. No, it is not.
I live in an area with a very large Jewish population. My line manager is Jewish. I have a number of Jewish friends. False assumptions about Judaism can rightly offend Jews. However, asking Jews about Judaism isn't offensive. The Jews I know would rather I asked them about Judaism and received correct answers rather than me making assumptions, which would almost certainly be false.
I also think the original question wasn't so much about Judaism but about Catholicism. That is, about what Catholics believe. It would be rather strange if questions about Catholicism couldn't be posed on a Catholic forum.

PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT ASK any more questions about Judaism, it is VERY Offensive to Jews, EVEN on a Catholic site. Please. I think you are misinformed. Back at CAF there were numerous threads discussing this or that detail of the Jewish religion. Some posters on those threads were Catholics, while there were Jewish posters too, including at least one Orthodox Jew, whose posts were invariably informative and interesting. As far as I’m aware, there was never a single complaint about any poster’s comments.

Generally, so long as it was just general chat or enquiries all went fine. There were a couple of people who occasionally popped up with bees in their bonnets about the Jews of an ugly kind but they mostly didn't last long.
