SAINT PETERSBURG - ALL-RUSSIAN MEETING OF CATHOLIC YOUTH BEGINS In Saint Petersburg, on August 23rd, 2023, the All-Russian Meeting of Catholic Youth began at the Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary. 350 participants, including priests, bishops, seminarians, nuns, and lay men and women from all over the Russian Federation travelled to Saint Petersburg. The faithful travelled from over 50 Russian cities to take part in the celebration, which culminated on the first day in the celebration of the Holy Mass. Pope Francis has agreed to appear at the conference via tele-video, and will speak directly to Russian Catholic youth at the end of the conference. The Holy Mass was concelebrated by Bishop Joseph I. Werth SJ of Novosibirsk, Bishop Clemens Pickel of Saratov, Bishop Cyryl Klimowicz of Irkutsk, and Bishop Nikolai G. Dubinin, Auxiliary Bishop of Moscow. Bishop Dubinin gave the homily. The All-Russian Meeting of Catholic Youth, inspired by World Youth Day, took the motto, "Mary arose and went with haste" (Lk 1:39). Young people will spend time attending the Holy Mass, discussing the faith in groups, socialising, meeting their bishops, discussing the contemporary life of the Catholic Church in Russia. There are some who tell us: "All Russians are zombified, they are all "Z", they are all fascists". No, this is incorrect. There are many good people in Russia. It is these young Russians - not only these Catholics, but other like-minded people - who will be the future of Russia.
