A priest from a parish in Kyiv, Ukraine, told the web-portal "dialogtut" why he continues to pray for Patriarch Kirill at every Divine Liturgy using the formula "Our great and Father Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia".

According to the anonymous parish priest in Kyiv, it is only possible not to commemorate the Patriarch if he has fallen into heresy or schism, neither of which Patriarch Kirill has done. The priest said that in his opinion, Patriarch Kirill did not bless the war. He said that Patriarch Kirill's blessing of icons for the Russian Army was not immoral because as the Patriarch of Moscow he was blessing the icon for Russian soldiers who peacefully do what is right in their line of duty. In other words, Patriarch Kirill blessed the icons, and it is not his fault if they are used in the war in Ukraine. The priest also said that Patriarch Kirill directed that prayers for peace in Ukraine be raised at every church in Russia.
The priest said that after the invasion of Ukraine, he stopped commemorating Patriarch Kirill, but then parishioners accused him of schism, so after a meeting of the parish council it was decided two priests at the parish would continue to commemorate Patriarch Kirill using the old formula, and one would commemorate him silently.
The priest added that every week, he holds a special service for Ukrainian soldiers, and prays for about 2000 soldiers of Ukraine that they will be granted health and good fortune as they defend their motherland.
It is said that of 150 Ukrainian Orthodox churches in the city of Kyiv, only around 5 or 10 continue to commemorate the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia in the pre-2022 formula. However, the head of the UOC His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy, continues to commemorate the Patriarch as "Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill" after he has commemorated the Patriarchs of Antioch and Jerusalem in accord with Orthodox practice.
