The new Apostolic Vicar of Aleppo, Bishop Hanna Jallouf, recently appointed by Pope Francis, was installed at St Francis Assisi Church in Aleppo. I trust that this heralds a new beginning for Latin Catholics in Aleppo, who, along with other Syrians, have suffered so much in recent years. His Beatitude The Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem Pierbattista Pizzaballa consecrated Fr Jallouf to the episcopate. Travelling to Aleppo in order to participate was Archbishop Gugerotti (Prefect of the Dicastery of the Eastern Churches), His Beatitude Patriarch Pizzaballa, and many other bishops and priests from Syria, the Middle East, and around the world. After the Holy Mass, the new apostolic vicar received the Governor of Aleppo and the General Secretary of the Aleppo Branch of the Ba'ath Party who congratulated the new head of Latin Catholics in Aleppo on behalf of the President of Syria, General-Secretary of the Ba'ath Party Bashar al-Assad.
