The second Armenian genocide has surely started, but the world is silent. Since the Armenian country of Artsakh was defeated by Azerbaijan, and forced to dissolve itself last week, tens of thousands of ethnic Armenians are fleeing to Armenia proper. Russia, which is meant to defend the Armenians has done NOTHING to help. Russia, in fact, appears more to be siding with Azerbaijan, even though Azerbaijan is a criminal regime backed by Russia's enemies Turkey and the West. Russia is meant to defend its ally Armenia, but comes up with every excuse not to. Partly, this is not really Russia's fault, given the current Armenian government of Nikol Pashinyan has recognised Azerbaijan's sovereignty over the Armenian land of Artsakh, but still, it is not a good situation. In this rather metaphorical photograph, thousands of Armenian cars flee through the corridor controlled by Russian peacekeepers. The people in the cars are leaving the land their ancestors have lived in for centuries, and in the distance sits a portrait of Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, overlooking the exodus with nothing but his stern expression.

Yes, what is taking place is a disgrace and the E.U. is currently buying much natural gas from Azerbaijan as it maintains sanctions against Russia and the White House Administration is still aiding them militarily as this Politico article outlines:
Azerbaijan military assistance waiver delayed as review drags on Lawmakers and Armenian groups are calling on the Biden administration to end exemptions that allow Baku to receive security assistance from the U.S. Every year since 2002, the White House has issued a waiver to provide aid to Azerbaijan despite its campaign against Nagorno-Karabakh

Yes....the Azeri regime is propped up by the West and Turkey. Even though it is ruled by Ilham Aliyev, the son of the former KGB head turned Azeri President Heydar Aliyev, as a dictatorship, it is still supported by the West. The USA should be sending Armenia weapons to fight the Azeri aggressor. But it doesn't because it doesn't care about Armenia really. It only cares about Ukraine because it has a common enemy in Russia. If it really cared about preserving a set-upon democratic state it would be helping Armenia in every possible way.

This is a disgrace and Russia's reaction is poor thus far. Whatever disagreements Armenia has with Russia are something they should look past. Iosagan's point about the Azeri regime being headed by a form KGB chief shows that realpolitik as ever is more often most of the time than idealism in these situations.

Iosagan's point about the Azeri regime being headed by a form KGB chief shows that realpolitik as ever is more often most of the time than idealism in these situations. Me and a friend of mine from church were talking about this. We both agreed Russia's inaction is likely a combination of 1) Russia being upset at Armenia's drift towards the West; 2) the very soft position of the current Armenian government under Nikol Pashinyan, which basically views Artsakh as a burden on Armenia and has little interest, apparently, in keeping control over it. This leads Russia to believe it doesn't need to help Armenia. The BBC was referring to Artsakh as "the Armenian separatist state" and referring to it as Azeri terrritory occupied by Armenians. The Western media has a very selective reading of world conflicts, only taking the side of the suffering when it is convenient or in the interests of the West.

ARTSAKH IS ALMOST COMPLETELY DEPOPULATED by Asbarez Staff October 2, 2023 in Armenia, Artsakh,
As of late Sunday night local time, 100,514 displaced Artsakh residents had entered Armenia, with the Artsakh Human Rights Defender Gegham Stepanyan reporting that the last bus carrying 15 passengers left Stepanakert for Goris.
In a Facebook post he said that a “small team of dedicated people” will stay in Artsakh to look for “helpless” civilians who may be stuck in their homes and unable to leave.
“If you still have clear information about lonely or helpless people left behind in Artsakh, you should contact the International Committee of the Red Cross or provide us with relevant information to be forwarded to the ICRC,” Stepanian said.
Artsakh President Samvel Shahramanyan said he and a group of other officials will stay in Stepanakert until the search for people who died or went missing as a result of last week’s powerful fuel depot explosion and victims of the Azerbaijani attack on Artsakh on September 19 is over.
Shahramanyan signaled on Friday that he was going to negotiate with the Azerbaijanis to allow former Artsakh leaders and other prominent figures to leave for Armenia safely.
Azerbaijan’s prosecutor general’s office said on Saturday that it has compiled a “most wanted” list of 300 Artsakh officials and issued what it called “international warrants” for their arrest. Included on the list are the three former presidents of Artsakh, Arayik Harutyunyan, Bako Sahakian and Arkady Ghukasian.
Citing an unnamed source in Artsakh, the Russian TASS news agency reported on Monday that Harutyunyan, Sahakian and Ghukasian remained in Stepanakert as of noon local time on Monday amid continuing negotiations with the Azerbaijani side.
Artsakh’s former foreign minister David Babayan reportedly was arrested after he said he was going to turn himself in to Azerbaijani authorities. Another three officials, former state minister Ruben Vardanyan, former Artsakh Army commander Levon Mnatsakanyan and his ex-deputy Davit Manukyan, have also been arrested and under currently in Azerbaijani prisons.
Azerbaijani officials escorted a team of United Nations observers to Stepanakert on Sunday for what was the first official visit of a UN delegation in 30 years.
Reports are circulating that Azerbaijani television and radio broadcasts have already begun airing in areas previously under the control of the Stepanakert authorities.
Azerbaijan has signaled that it will begin circulating it currency, the manat, in those areas and Stepanakert.

The violinist Ara Malikian has recently posted some amazing footage of the depopulation of urban areas.
