www.facebook.com/georgewroi/videos/282144207954160In Russia, an Orthodox priest who prayed for peace publicly apologised during the liturgy after his bishop threatened to defrock him. 29 year old Fr Ilya Gavryshkiv, a priest of the Rzhev Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church (Tver Oblast) prayed for peace in Ukraine during the Divine Liturgy. He decided to change Patriarch Kirill's obligatory "prayer for the Victory of Holy Russia" to a prayer for peace. After one of his parishioners denounced him to Bishop Adrian of Rzhev, the bishop decided to turn up to the liturgy at St Elijah Church in Pogoreloye Gorodishche, where Fr Gavryshkiv is rector. Bishop Adrian decided to humiliate the priest in his homily, and said that any priest who prays for peace is not worthy of the priesthood and must be defrocked. He then turned to Fr Gavryshkiv and said "You don’t care about the church at all, do you?" When the bishop said this, Fr Gavryshkiv "repented". Fr Gavryshkiv said "out of stupidity, misunderstanding, pride and foolishness, I read prayers for peace." He also publicly repented for signing a letter to Putin, asking him to stop the war in Ukraine. The bishop then said to the congregation "shall we forgive him?" to which they responded, "yes, let's forgive". Fr Ilya Gavryshkiv
