This is a small forum, but I think it's a good one, and I'd like to see it grow. We are already averaging a new member every week or oftener, and that's a good sign. Now that the forum once again has an active moderator (me), and I don't think we need to worry about the forum disappearing --- something that was always in the back of my mind --- I hope it will continue for years to come.
Some thoughts, in no particular order of importance:
This is basically an announcement, not an ongoing thread, so this one, I will lock. Discussion of these issues should take place in a fresh thread.
Some thoughts, in no particular order of importance:
- We have a wide range of opinions here, and that's a good thing. Anyone who reads this forum knows where I stand --- rooted in Catholic tradition, with an adherence to the Traditional Latin Mass (the Missal of Pope St Pius V and its pre-Vatican II revisions, which were very, very minor), but not absolutely opposed to Vatican II or the Novus Ordo Missae of 1969 (and its successors), whether in the Latin editio typica or its approved vernacular translations. I assist at both, though my preference is always for the TLM. Opinions here vary widely. I have no issue with that.
- As long as basic charity and mutual tolerance of each other's opinions prevail, l will be exercising a very light hand in moderation. Questioning the integrity and good faith of other members --- not good. Name-calling --- not good. At this time, we don't have a problem with that here. We can disagree without being disagreeable. We do that here every day.
- As far as I am concerned right now, I will only ban obvious trolls, such as the one we had here a few weeks ago, and whose shenanigans led to ProBoards agreeing to assign a new moderator (with the help of one reader who put in a good word for me). I don't intend to ban anyone for their opinions, no matter what they are. I'm not going to set that in stone, but suffice it to say that, at this time, there is no one here whom I'm even thinking of banning.
- We all know what the teachings of the Church are, and if there is any doubt about the matter, please consult the Catechism of the Catholic Church, or earlier catechisms if that's your choice.
- I have no issue with "thread drift". If a discussion is going wildly in a different direction from the original post, I will split it out into a new thread, but I won't shut it down. As far as I'm concerned right now, all threads will stay open indefinitely (but see below). That, too, is not written in stone, but it's not my intent at this time.
- It would have to be something awfully outlandish before I would delete a post.
- Likewise, I don't intend to start editing posts. Blasphemous or scurrilous language are subject to editing, but we haven't had that problem here recently, nor do I see that becoming a problem.
