Today we celebrate a battle that changed the course of European history, and with that - the history of the World.
Today, Tuesday 10th October 2023 marks the 1301st anniversary of one of the most famous and decisive battles in history and one whose influence most likely extends to all reading this. The battle was fought on 10th October AD 732 and is widely considered to be one of the most important military events in Christian history post Apostolic times, as it saved Europe from domination by Islam. Unfortunately in these “politically correct” times, fewer and fewer Christians seem to have heard of it. I refer of course to The Battle of Tours.
It is thought to have taken place somewhere near the confluence of the rivers Vienne and Clain at Châtellerault, where the western old Roman Road coming up from the Roman province of Hispania runs. (This is a road I know well, as it was the route of my childhood summer vacations from Paris to the coast near Bordeaux and it passes through some wonderful cathedral towns, such as Chartres, Tours, and Poitiers. (It can be found on Google maps with the designated road numbers N 110 and D 910)
