450-year-old cross vandalised in the Spanish city of Seville
The 450-year-old Christian cross in the Spanish city of Seville was found vandalized on Sunday morning. The cross, which was once located near San Lorenzo Hospital, was brought to Plaza de Santa Marta at the beginning of the 20th century. The city's mayor, José Luis Sanz, condemned the vandalism of the historical cross, which was designed by Hernán Ruiz II, a Renaissance architect.
He announced that an investigation had been launched into the incident and assured that the cross would be restored. The pieces of the vandalized cross have been collected by city authorities.
Spanish priest Juan Manuel Góngora, who has more than 66,000 followers on X, denounced the vandalism: "In Seville, a cross from 1564, located in a public square, has been vandalized. The anti-Christian hatred grows, encouraged by the complicity of the enemies of the Church, insecurity, and a lack of authority," he said on the platform, adding, "We will rebuild everything they destroy; it will not be the first time."
