I say without any apprehension or doubt whatsoever that today, Ukraine, a land of martyrs and saints, is being destroyed, opposed, and decimated by both V. V. Putin and his supporters in the Russian Federation, and also by the man at the head of Ukraine itself, V. O. Zelensky and his minions.
On the one hand, the Ukrainians, both young soldiers and innocent civilians, die everyday due to the terrible war, which is not of recent origin, but actually began in 2014 and was extended significantly when Putin disastrously decided to launch a full-scale invasion. We pray for the Ukrainian heroes who defend their motherland and the innocent civilians who died.
On the other hand, we see that Ukraine has basically become a totalitarian anti-clerical police state. The Orthodox Church is being banned. Some deputies now want to ban the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church. It only gets worse.
Poor Ukraine is assailed by enemies both within and without - and Ukraine is suffering terribly. The population has half fled to Poland, Germany, Russia, and other European countries. Monastic and church life is being systematically destroyed even as the people who value these churches the most die everyday defending Ukraine's borders.
What can I say? Dear Ukraine has become, yet again, a land flowing with blood, a land that suffers even today from terror, war, death, and destruction - not only physical, but spiritual. The Ukrainian government has learned all its Church-related tactics from Lenin and Khrushchev. What a terrible thing this is. A Ukrainian bishop even said to me personally, that the man who controls Ukraine's religious policy is a communist, a Leninist, an anti-Semite, and a Khrushchevian persecutor of Christian religion.
