Must a Catholic believe that God is omnipotent?
(This question is asked after a recent twitter posting by an American Bishop.)
Every week we Catholics profess a certain dogma of the faith when we say the Creed at Mass. Here are the openings of both the Nicene Creed and the Apostles Creed.
Nicene Creed:
I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible…..
Apostles Creed
I believe in God the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,…...
If you notice the opening of both Creeds, you will see that the dogma affirmed that I refer to in this post is that God is almighty i.e. omnipotent.
Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller recently posted the tweet shown below. He was then challenged on the detail of this dogma and asked for clarification. His response was to simply make the tweet unavailable and offer no further explanation at all.
Very strange!

Bad choice of words. This Abp was installed in 2010 under Pope Benedict so I would expect him to be doctrinally solid.

I just read this Abp's Twitter and he seems to be really troubled by the war in Israel and posting about it constantly. Despite the fact that he is nowhere near Israel and no doubt has plenty of pressing issues occurring right in his own diocese. I think he may be having some personal issue. The apologist should maybe just leave the Abp alone.

I don't know what point this bishop wanted to make. I don't have an X account so I'm not going to bother looking him up. The problem, of course, with X is that you have to try and say something with a very limited word count. Therefore, it's perhaps not the most appropriate forum in which to attempt theological explanations. Humans committing evil does not demonstrate that God is not omnipotent.
