In other news, water is wet. Seriously this has been obvious to the most casual US observer for some years. I noticed myself when I returned to active practice in 2015 that the newer priests and pastors were way different from the young priests when I was growing up. They were more like the older pre-V2 priests I remembered from my childhood. It is very refreshing.
I should however note that not all the elderly priests in US are progressive. We have three or four pastors over 60 around here who are moderate-to-conservative. They promote a lot of traditional devotions, say reasonably reverent OF Masses, and openly support pro-life. A lot of the "progressive" priests ordained in past decades left the priesthood a long time ago (sometimes voluntarily and sometimes kicked out over some scandal), so if a priest managed to hang in there long enough to now be celebrating his 35th, 40th or 50th anniversary as a priest, there's a good chance he leaned conservative or at least moderate from the beginning.

My favoured parish is pushing 70 at least. As I noted once before because he likes to quote bits of literature my father finds him dry. His favoured priest is probably in his 40s. Both are theologically orthodox though and the younger priest utilizes Latin hymns.

I think we're also seeing a reaction to problems with neoliberalism, and with more conservative views from Third World countries growing stronger.
