I am glad that he did not resign, but forced Francis to remove him.
Perhaps this will now free Strickland to speak even more openly than he already has.

Sadly, this is what happens on Pope Francis' watch.
I suspect there's no reason given for Bishop Strickland's removal because there isn't a valid one. He defended the Catholic Faith and the Church seemed to be growing in his diocese. That, bizarrely, is not allowed under the current regime in Rome.

Nah he was probably doing something whack with the finances or management of his diocese. I hope the Pillar or somebody who's not a frothing-at-the-mouth anti-conservative blogger can ferret out the whole story.

I hope the Pillar or somebody who's not a frothing-at-the-mouth anti-conservative blogger can ferret out the whole story. Sadly, even putting the whole doctrinal thing aside, gross financial mismanagement would be reason enough to depose a bishop. If that was the case, perhaps Rome thought it better not to specify a reason. There could even be legal ramifications.

I never thought the day would come, that I would share a link from Where Peter Is, but I found this to be a very intelligent and fair-minded commentary. I just hope that any "counseling" wouldn't consist of intimidation, such as may have happened when Ottaviani recanted his "intervention" on the promulgation of the Novus Ordo Missae. I'm reminded of Winston Smith and "Room 101" in Orwell's 1984. wherepeteris.com/on-stricklands-removal/

Yes, he was skating on the edge there. I could have told him “don’t go there”.

Still waiting for some actual journalism to emerge. Bishop Strickland hasn't said anything I haven't already seen posted online or heard said in person by some Catholic, so other than the fact that he was a bishop and obviously risking incurring the wrath of Rome, I'm not wound up about any of it. Many US Catholics dislike this Pope and he dislikes them right back, it's ceased to be surprising. Edited to add, I see that Fr Tim Kelly of Tyler diocese, who is all over the news and blog media talking about how awful Strickland was to serve under, has also been a contributor over at "Where Peter Is" for some time...

The article could have been better, could have been worse. That's what I was trying to get at. Considering that it came from WPI, I found it surprisingly balanced and free of the "people who don't like Pope Francis are bad people" thing. Got to wonder if this Fr Kelly is a candidate to be consecrated the next Bishop of Tyler. Before Bishop Strickland, when I heard "Tyler, Texas", I thought of Sandy Duncan, one of my several teenage celebrity mini-infatuations.

Seems more likely Prevost will either move a bishop from another diocese to Tyler, or promote an auxiliary bishop from some diocese, rather than elevating a priest. It's likely there will be a lot of contentious feelings on both sides and the diocese needs an experienced shepherd to calm things down. Elevating a priest who's running his mouth to the media doesn't seem prudent to me.

IMO what that diocese needs right now is some kind of bland, healing type, kind of a Father Mulcahy from M*A*S*H personality.
