I would like to know why this Saint known as Pope John XXIII is venerated in Protestant denominations?
What stood out for you the most about this saint? For me it was his writing on objective truth and against moral relativism.

He was a nice humble guy with a sense of humor who was loved by many. Some think he was helpful in promoting world peace and ecumenism.
He also unexpectedly convened Vatican II which was apparently welcomed by large masses of Catholics in his time, though many Catholics today complain about how it was implemented after Pope John XXIII died.
It helped that he wasn't in office long so he didn't have time to "wear out his welcome" by doing something that annoyed a large group of people.
I liked that he made jokes and added St Joseph to the Divine Praises. A Cardinal or bishop who was a victim of torture requested that and made a long speech about it and he had a hard time speaking and talked too long and other Cardinals laughed at him and told him to sit down. Pope John saw all this and got mad at the Cardinals who laughed, and he added St Joseph to the Divine Praises right away. He had a big devotion to St Joseph.

Francis wants to be another John XXIII, but it just doesn't work. Treating people who aren't in lockstep with him the way he does probably has something to do with it. Ditto the wildly novel theology. John XXIII didn't go there.

Well, Pope Francis declaring the Year of St Joseph is one of the unquestionably good things the ol' boy did.
We also do not know if Pope John XXIII would have done more questionable things if he'd lived longer. Obviously LGBTQ was not on the table then, nor had clergy sexual abuse come to light, so that's two big problems Pope John did not have to grapple with.

Yes, I'm very thankful for the Year of St Joseph. It neatly coincided with my father's passing, and allowed me to stack up a ton of plenary indulgences for him. Those were the easiest PIs one can imagine. (Of course, I always get tripped up by that "detachment from all sin, including venial" bit. That's the only really hard part about it.) And Pope Francis did come closer to fulfilling Our Lady's Fatima requests than any Pope before him had. That can't be a bad thing.
