Why is he not getting the procession through Dublin? Are they concerned about violence breaking out again?

There will be a procession through Dublin as well before his remains are returned to Nenagh and cremated.

The route of Shane MacGowan's funeral procession through Dublin has been confirmed.
It will take place this Friday morning around the south inner city, when the singer's coffin will be taken by horse-drawn carriage and led by the Artane Band and a piper between Ringsend and Pearse Street from 10.30am to 11.45am.
The procession will begin in Ringsend at 10.30am, not far from where Mr MacGowan lived with his wife Victoria Mary Clarke in Ballsbridge.
The singer's coffin will arrive by hearse at the carpark of the Shelbourne Park Greyhound Stadium and from there it will be transferred to a horse drawn carriage.
Then the Artane Band and a piper will lead the carriage and some family cars onto South Lotts Road, across McMahon Bridge and down Pearse Street to the junction of Lombard Street East and Westland Row.
It will then cross Westland Row and Lincoln Place into Fenian Street and then travel on to Denzille Lane where the coffin will be transferred back into the hearse privately.
The whole procession is expected to last about an hour and a quarter.
A traffic management plan will be put in place by gardaĆ with some road closures and traffic held at junctions during the course of the procession.
Following the route around the capital, the hearse and family cars will depart for Nenagh in Co Tipperary.
Mr MacGowan's funeral mass will take place in St Mary of the Rosary Church in Nenagh on Friday afternoon.
It is open to the public and expected to be attended by a large number of people, including leading figures from the music industry and fans who will gather there to pay their respects to the Pogues frontman who died on Thursday.
More details of that service are expected to emerge in the coming days.
Mr MacGowan had strong connections to Co Tipperary where his mother was from and where his father Maurice still lives. His sister Siobhan lives in nearby Dromineer on Lough Derg.
His funeral takes place on 8 December, the feast of the Immaculate Conception in the Roman Catholic Church.
His friend and family say Mr MacGowan had a great devotion to Our Lady and that his funeral mass will mark this.
It has also been noted that his funeral will take place on the day of the late Sinead O'Connor's birthday, who died earlier this year.

Shane had a great devotion to Our Lady? That's unexpected and also heartening. I thought he was this side of a Buddhist all these years.

Some of his last few pictures show him with a Rosary and his wife speaks of praying the Rosary with him as he was dying for his mother's soul. I expect this funeral is going to be a lot more the kind of thing you might expect from an Irish funeral Bear.

I speak from experience sadly

My mother died when I was a teenager as you are aware Bear. Sadly my last memory of her is not very pleasant and I still have nightmares about it at times. It took me a very long time to come to terms with this stuff in my head and I'm not sure I every totally have really.

Due to a confluence of several events and my own exhaustion at dealing with the situation, I was not there when my ma died. Felt horrible about it even though my cousins told me that parents seem to often somehow "wait to go" until the kids are absent, as it had happened to them with their parents. I still felt guilty. I tried to make it up to deceased Mom by doing something she wanted me to do, namely going back to church. And stuff just went from there, now here I am.
Sometimes I picture her saying something sarcastic like "It's wonderful that you finally went back to church Bear, but why couldn't you have done that while I was still alive instead of causing me so much worry for years? "

I was in the room when she suddenly shouted 'I'm going to die' and started vomiting and went. That's my last image of her on the morning of my 18th birthday. Let's just say this is not rated number one on 'the fun experiences you'd like to have list.' I had what I realized was a breakdown after this looking back on it and took some time to recover.

I understand from one of my British atheist friends that UK livestreamed the funeral. As it was during the hours when I was working and attending HDO Mass, I could not watch any streams, hopefully they will post video of the whole business for watching later.
