“HOT MIC: Vatican using 'mafia' tactics to stop public support of Bishop Strickland”
Fatima TV Anchorwoman Anna Kulanová was stopped and detained near St. Peter’s Square by Italian Police acting on instruction of the Vatican over a banner that displayed public support for recently cancelled Bishop Joseph Strickland. Vatican police admitted on camera that support for Bishop Strickland was the reason for detainment. After being forced into a police vehicle, police confiscated Kulanová’s banner and cameras. Kulanová was held by the police for more than 3 hours—providing the police enough time to wipe her electronics of footage. Now, Kulanová is telling her story. It is impossible to now deny, Pope Francis’ Vatican seeks to cancel real dialogue — and she has the hidden mic recording to prove it.
Interview with Anna Kulanová and footage that was not located and subsequently erased can be viewed here:

The Vatican has often in the past told people in St Peter's Square to put away banners and flags deemed too controversial. I seem to recall a group from some country having a conflict were told to put their banners and flags away, meanwhile delegations from other countries were permitted to keep theirs. It's not surprising that this happened.
I wonder if someone wore a t-shirt with Bishop Strickland or Cardinal Burke on it into St Peter's Square, would they be told to cover up or get tossed out?

Well in the church of "Todos, Todos Todos" (but not really.....) tossed out with the trash I guess!
What is more sinister, is the apparent connivance of Roman secular law enforcement to intercept these people before entering Vatican territory, presumably acting on behalf of another sovereign state i . e. The Vatican.

If she was actually on Vatican City territory, it's the Pope's call to make. To the extent he uses Rome Police I'm sure they don't enforce his wishes re banners and stuff outside of Vatican City and perhaps around the checkpoints to get in, so it's not like Anna is going to get chased out of Trastevere with her banner, at least not on the Pope's orders (there may be some general Rome law about banners and demonstrations of which I'm not aware).

In the Vatican's defense --- I try always to be fair-minded --- prohibiting politically or ideologically charged banners is something they do as a matter of course.

'Fatima TV Anchorwoman Anna Kulanová was stopped and detained near St. Peter’s Square by Italian Police acting on instruction of the Vatican over a banner that displayed public support for recently cancelled Bishop Joseph Strickland. Vatican police admitted on camera that support for Bishop Strickland was the reason for detainment.' This is full of very loose and ambiguous wording. How 'near' to St. Peter's Square? Obviously, the two police forces may co-operate near entry points to prevent situations arising. Are we sure these were Italian police and not the Vatican's own Police Force? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corps_of_Gendarmerie_of_Vatican_City

From the article, she was apparently trying to enter the square, so it's whatever police operate the checkpoint. Based on what I have seen around Vatican City, it may well have been multiple police forces cooperating and my guess is when she and husband were hauled off to a police station, it was probably in Rome, not Vatican City. If someone is a problem/ potential threat or disturbance to the Pope or to others in St Peter's Square, they will remove the person from that area and probably out of Vatican City as it's not very big.

What is more sinister, is the apparent connivance of Roman secular law enforcement to intercept these people before entering Vatican territory, presumably acting on behalf of another sovereign state; i . e. The Vatican. By mutual agreement, St. Peter's square and the public parts of the basilica itself, as well as other areas open to the public, are routinely patrolled by the Italian State Police, not by the Vatican Police. The very tiny Vatican Police Force (called the Gendarms) is responsible only for those areas closed off to the public, and to extraterritorial sites like Castel Gondolfo. Conversely, the Pope can send the Gendarms to help the Italian Police in Italy if requested. So much for "sinister" conspiracy theories.
