This perception of Nigerian priests as a sign parishes are about to be close etc. is definitely not something I run into here in the UK. Our Deacon is Nigerian at my parish and he suggested that as there is a dire shortage of Deacons and due to the lack of candidates with requisite education in the area that I put my name forward. Several of the local priests are Nigerian. We also seem to have a surplus of migrants from the Anglican Church in this bit of London who have transferred over for various reasons.

Yeah, the presence of an African-born or other foreign born priest at a parish in US doesn't suggest much of anything, parish closure wise. Two of my parishes had African-born priests for a long time. They were/ are both very loved by the (mostly white) parishioners. One of them was finishing an advanced degree at the local university before becoming a pastor and the other helps run two separate parishes and inspired me spiritually in a certain way. There's another local church that just got one and he is already very popular for his regular "healing Mass" which combines Adoration with charismatic elements.
A nice thing about the African priests is that they are usually quite clear and orthodox about what the Church teaches and that we must follow it.

(Replying to Dominic) - I guess I'm still puzzled. Our Diocese here (and Archdiocese in my former community) has been "importing" priests from the world over - regardless of the economic status of their home countries - without any parish closures resulting or even correlating. Are these just rumors that float around in your area?
