I need some education here. Miss Swift is a moderately talented, reasonably attractive young woman --- her music is not to my tastes, but everyone's different --- but how in the world did she become this omnipresence, numerous magazines on the racks at grocery stores and pharmacies dedicated to her, and news coverage, even serious news coverage, ad nauseam. This is far more than just a "pop star having her moment" thing.
What's going on here?
And even though I found his interruption as rude as anyone else did, I'm with Kanye, "All The Single Ladies" is one of the greatest music videos of all time, while "You Belong To Me" is, to me anyway, just another bouncy pop music video, nothing particularly special about it. (OTOH, the video for Aerosmith's "Crazy", with Liv Tyler and Alicia Silverstone, well, that one was unforgettable.)
If I am going to listen to pop music of a certain generation --- and I normally don't, I usually listen to classical --- I much prefer Billie Eilish to Taylor Swift. And Adele, well, she's in a class by herself.

Neil Howe claims she is the embodiment of the millennial archetype: "combination of perfectionism and anxiety", "perfectly arranged and staged".

Neil Howe claims she is the embodiment of the millennial archetype: "combination of perfectionism and anxiety", "perfectly arranged and staged". I still don't see what all the fuss is about. As pop-music chanteuses go, Billie Eilish and Adele run circles around her. Another lesser-known (in the US) female pop singer is Belgian-born Eurodance artist Kate Ryan. I could listen to her music all day. Katy Perry (aside from her immodest fashion) is also very good, until she runs out of lyrics and starts doing that "ah-ah-ah-ah-AH" thing. Her videos are absolute works of art. I'm not just some paleoconservative alte Kocker sitting around all day listening to classical music and nursing the Nicorette lozenges that I have to use in lieu of vaping (and even my beloved pipe) until I go on Medicare in two years --- I had to sign a statement that I don't smoke or vape to avoid a stiff surcharge on my present ACA insurance. I'm really a pretty fun guy as sexagenarians go. Having a teenage son forces me to be at least a little bit more conversant with pop culture than I would otherwise be. And Beyonce's video was sheer perfection. Eppur si muove!

The WW2 veteran generation also couldn't see what's the fuss with the Beatles or Rolling Stones. I know my grandad literally believed that the police should arrest young men with long hair.

It's all just media hype. For some reason, TPTB have anointed her. I counted at least a dozen magazines at my local bookseller the other day with her picture plastered on them. It was the same a couple of decades ago with Britney Spears, who, like Miss Swift, is only moderately talented. For some reason, when I saw a poster of Miss Spears in a record store back then, at first I thought she was some kind of contemporary Christian singer. I don't know why.

I'm convinced you are right. So-called generational trends are just media hype. That's what I wrote long ago: Now I'm coming back to this viewpoint.
