My 19 year old grandson has been asked to participate in a FOCUS mission trip this summer. On May 3rd FOCUS will be holding a group rosary. They are inviting all to join FOCUS in praying a live Rosary for FOCUS Missionaries this Friday, May 3, at 12:30 p.m. ET (11:30 a.m. CT, 10:30 a.m. MT, 9:30 a.m. PT). I'll post the URL link below if you want to sign up to join in praying with the group. Or you can just say the Rosary privately for their intentions. Thank you. 🙏🏼 focus.org/praywithus/may/

jcath Thank you for your response. No need to disrupt your work schedule. Just say some prayers privately for the success of their mission. Logging into the live Rosary is optional. Both my son and his wife will be at work also. A family rosary will be said that evening. I'm visiting with my son and his family for the Confirmation of my 15 year old granddaughter so I can participate in both.

Our KofC council has sponsored parishioners previously who were in the Focus program. It seems to be a good program, and will likely deepen his faith by participating in it.

Yes I agree that FOCUS helps to prepare the next generation of Catholics to bear true witness to Christ. My grandson was fortunate to have spent 12 years being educated in Catholic schools. He currently attends a secular university but it has an active Catholic student body so he remains grounded in his Catholic beliefs. He is discerning a vocational call to the priesthood and so part of his mission trip will involve that spiritual reflection.
FOCUS offered him a choice between going to rural area in Montana or in Maine. He decided on Maine and will be working a 40 hour week in June and July. It is uncertain what he will be doing but he knows that most of his work will involve outdoors physical labor. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout in his local scouting program and has done the rugged Philmont High Adventure backpacking trek. During the recent Spring break he and several other college students used their week to hike the Southern most part of the Appalachian Trail so I'm pretty sure that he is physically capable of enduring whatever tasks he will asked to perform.
The FOCUS Summer Project is a 10 week formation and mentorship experience which is designed to take faith formation to a greater depth. It aims to give participants the lifelong mission experience of working a nine-to-five while striving to live as a disciple of Christ. Throughout the summer, he'll be accompanied by missionaries, be formed by top speakers in the faith, and grow in understanding of the “why” for what we believe in the Catholic faith. The following is an excerpt from FOCUS that explains what this particular mission trip is all about.
"Intensive Formation for Lifelong Catholic Mission.
Simultaneously work a full-time job, grow in Catholic community, and receive world-class formation in the Catholic Faith. Want to know what it’s like to be a saint in the real world? Choose to live the Gospel amidst adult responsibilities. If you do Summer Projects, you will grow, it will be challenging, and it will be sanctifying. But don’t worry, you won’t be alone!
Modeled on the practices of the ancient Christians (Acts 2:42), Summer Projects builds future leaders, via a variety of faith-filled experiences: individual mentorship, expert theologians, men’s and women’s groups, adventure, the sacraments, a skilled team of chaplains, communal living, real-life work experience, and much more!
Choosing Summer Projects is choosing to have an amazing summer living out your work life and faith life, taking a deeper dive into the Gospel message, and coming to a better understanding of who you are. Choose Summer Projects and choose to live out your summer as a son or daughter of Christ."
