Ripping off a thread idea from Clare here. Please forgive me! The late Dorothy Parker once said, about a book (I think it was Atlas Shrugged): "this is not a book to be set aside lightly. It should be thrown aside with great force." Warning your friends about such books can actually be construed as a spiritual work of mercy. So post away and tell us all about those books that really, really annoyed you!

I've had a few lately. And I generally forget them very quickly. Now most of the books I read are e-books from the Quebec "National" (really Provincial, but Quebec has always had visions of grandeur) Library. So when I land on a bad one, I very quickly return it, to be quickly forgotten. Right now I'm reading "Grand Central Terminal"; I love trains and train stations so I am really enjoying it.
My wife is a big fan of Louise Penny mystery books. I am not. I met Louise Penny at the abbey a few years ago. When I was introduced to her by our oblate director, I smiled and said "very happy to meet you, my wife is a big fan of your books!".
Note I didn't say that I was a big fan of her books!
I wonder if she picked up on that... all I can say is that Le Carré has nothing to worry about...

Along those lines, I don't read all those books that are pumped out on the first of every month by ghost writers and the main guy pouts his or her name on it, and it's 25% off at Kroger. Yuck. Same story, just different color covers on those books.

Same story, just different color covers on those books. Ugh. My mom used to read a lot of those. I don't know. I heard from a friend of my second cousin's aunt that a very well respected priest whose name she can't remember said that if anyone reads Harry Potter they'll grow horns and a tail and become fluent in Gobbledegook. Just so you're aware, guys.

Famous Sister Wendy says if you suspect someone is the devil himself, ask him to remove his shoes. He won't because he's ashamed of his hooves. 😃

Many years ago, I had a love-hate relationship with Dune and its sequels. It was kind of like an addiction. I would take up each book with curiosity, get hooked on it, then become impatient and disgusted with it, and yet I could not put it down. You know, I had to see how it turned out! Kids, Just Say NO!

You know, I realized in the last year or so that my ninth grade English teacher really hated the Church. We read a lot of anti-Catholic drivel, including Pope Joan.
