God of Heaven’s Armies, as I think about the warriors who have fallen in defense of our country and its freedoms, my heart breaks for their families. I wish to honor them today with this prayer. I thank You for their sacrifice and pray that their deaths not be in vain. I pray that these fallen heroes will feel my pride in their bravery and commitment to protect and defend. Lord of Unfailing Love, I know that You have received those who were Yours into Your presence, and these heroes are now safe with You. Thank You for that comfort, Lord. I pray that Your opening arms continue to welcome all of our fallen brothers and sisters into their new homes. Thank You for the promise of a place of rest that You gave to us in Your Scriptures. Let those who reside with You in eternal rest know how grateful I am for their sacrifice. Amen. My personal remembrance on every Memorial Day is of W1 Wade Ellen who died at the age of 20 years in Kontum province Vietnam on April 24, 1972. He is listed as KIA but his remains have never been returned. Survivors of this helicopter crash verified that he was killed from the impact. His story is reported on the Wall of Faces. Look at the photos to review the newspaper article about Wade from 1973 or for details of his mission look at page 3 of remembrances posted on 9.25.2012 as Final Mission of U.S. Helicopter UH-1H tail number 69-15715. www.vvmf.org/Wall-of-Faces/14855/WADE-L-ELLEN/

On this Memorial Day in order to pay tribute and respect to all those who have served our country try to remember one specific person you know whether family, friend, neighbor, or classmate who has given the ultimate sacrifice. Making it personal makes it real that freedom isn't free. Remembering those who have gone before in thanksgiving for the freedom they have left behind. God bless our military heroes who have preserved our freedoms for generations.

Father may our fallen heros sever you in your kingdom forever. May we as a country remember our brave soldiers that fought for the freedom of our country. May we not let their deaths be in vein. May we as a nation follow strong in Christ and continue to be free. In your name, Jesus amen!

50 years gone but not forgotten. Thank you Wade for your sacrifice to keep us free. I share his story to keep his memory alive. In remembrance of Warrant Officer Wade L. Ellen who died in Vietnam April 24, 1972. Wade was flying as co-pilot in a UH-1H (Huey) helicopter sent on a mission to extract army personnel from a compound under seige by the Viet Cong. The helicopter was proceeding to take them to another base camp when it was shot down. Wade and the pilot were reported to have been killed on impact but several others on board did survive. His remains were never found. Warrant Officer Wade Lynn Ellen was awarded the Silver Star Medal for his conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Valor, with Combat Distinguishing Device (V), for his exemplary courage in action. www.vvmf.org/Wall-of-Faces/14855/WADE-L-ELLEN/page/3/

Let us pray for all those who have died as a result of wars, past and present, whether combatants or civilians, aggressors or defenders.
O Loving God, we so often, and for so long, hear the guns and rockets, drones and bombs. Violence continues hidden in so many homes and families around the world – and the abuse of innocent children. In so many parts of the world today, the air is tense with waiting, uncertainty, insecurity. From ravaged lands, destroyed by war, your peoples lift their hands to you. We pray for stillness, for justice, and for peace to come and to last. We fear that they will not. O God, our maker, God of Abraham and Sarah, from which three great religions stemmed. We pray for peace. We pray negotiations which can reach the roots of historical conflicts. We pray for a commitment to human rights by all sides and the protection of all lives. We pray for effective international intervention to ensure justice for all sides. We pray for humanitarian aid and rebuilding where destruction has occurred. We pray for peace and for justice in our homes and on our city streets. We pray for an end to violence, war and death. Grant us this, peaceful God. Grant us a peaceful world. Wrap all and each of these your people in your love. Let them hear: “Come to me you who suffer and are burdened and I will give you rest”. Amen.
