I haven't really examined this prejudice as yet, but I'm pretty much indifferent to a man with tattoos (unless they are everywhere), but I immediately feel disappointed and less of a woman with a tattoo. I must try and get to the bottom of that.

The Word became flesh & made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory the glory of the one & only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace & truth.........John 1:14 // A segment of Heinrich Hofmann's painting "Christ and the Rich Young Ruler"

You are not to make worthless idols, images, or pillars for yourselves, nor set up for yourselves carved images to bow down to them in the land, because I am the LORD your God. The Spirit once asked me not to use the image of Holy Fire Dove on the altar. I woke up mid nite to witness my kitchen catching fire and I put out the fire in time with minimum damage and avoid homelessness. The darkness use the carved images to do more harm than good for their schemes.
God allowed only the image of the snake for curing snake bites and a pair of angels on the cover of the arch in the old testimony, and the Cross in the final battle of Contestant. The fourth image is the Divine Mercy and the images of Blessed Mother of God, Holy Queen of Legion of Angels.
I was wrong again when intending to buy the glory statue of archangel Micheal with the sword to beat the demon. Again, the voice of the Spirit said "You are not allowed to display that carved image".
So tattoo has the darkness magic and is disobedience to God. Too far from Christianity.

No tats on me and I think as a female getting tattooed is a generational thing. Tattoos weren't as common as they are now even on men. Usually those who were inked were in the military, laborers like stevedores, bikers or in the circus. Professional men or white collar workers either didn't have them or didn't flaunt them. Tattooed women were even rarer in the 50's in my social circle and perhaps more common in other ethnicities. I know that this type of body adornment has been around for thousands of years, it just never appealed to me. It's kind of like my mother's reaction to the piercing of my own ear lobes when I was in my twenties. She thought that it was a barbaric practice and her argument was 'to think about how it would look as I got older'. My pierced ears have brought me a lot of enjoyment over the years wearing an assortment of decorative fashion jewelry and the fine jewelry that my husband liked to give to me. The funniest tattoo that I've seen was on a young woman in her late teens or early twenties. She was a patient in the doctor's office where I worked. It was a tiny goldfish that had the appearance of jumping out of her navel with several splashes of blue water. She was proud to show it off as it was brand new and on her young, fit body; it did look cute. I often wondered how that tattoo image fared on her abdomen as she went through life!

The difference here is this: Making an idol to worship implies that idol “is” the god/dess it represents. The idol is being worshipped as god. A devotional statue gives man/woman something to help visualize the god/dess while in meditation and prayer. There is no belief that the idol/statue/whatever IS a god/dess. “You shall not carve idols for yourselves in the shape of anything in the sky above or on the earth below or in the waters beneath the earth; you shall not bow down before them or worship them.” (NAB on the USCCB site)
“Thou shalt not make unto thee a graven image, nor any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them;” (ASV) The sneaky booger here is the “bow down before them” part.
If all representations are forbidden, every church must be stripped of its crucifix. Stained glass depicting people and stories are gone too. Stations of the cross? Nope, toss them in the bin. Saints? Burn pile. I personally feel this is a commonly misunderstood passage. Dominus vobiscum

I think all church images are worthy memorable decorations, just like status of Lincoln, Washington; etc. Dont bow what is not God. Stations of the Cross is very powerful prayer to suppress evils. They flee.

Dominus vobiscum The New Testament pretty exclusively describes idolatry as manifest in sins of the flesh. 1 Cor 10 7 Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written: “The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.”
Col 3 5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.I believe it is somewhat of a red herring to get so focused on pagan statues as idols and be light on or give ourselves a pass on sins of lust and greed manifest in our own lives or in the society we live in.

I do have a tattoo but wear long sleeves all the time. It was/is for my enjoyment, not for general show. Also, both ears are pierced, but with small titanium “circular barbells.” They end at the bottom of the lobe, and were shaped to follow the curve of the lobe. They to not sway, nor stick out. Very conservative for now-a-days. Dominus vobiscum Here’s a thought: This body is a temporary home for the soul. It will die. It will be replaced with a glorified, perfect body in the end. What does a tattoo really matter anyway. Diamond studs are better says the ex-jeweler.lol.

At least two consequences for carved images or tattoo: The darkness will use the carved image for their deception while they can control your will and emotion.
