I am sure you know by now, I’m 23 with Daddy issues and I live in Africa.
My scruples made me think that God is a lovey dovey God that is nice and kind to everyone.
This childish thinking made me become tolerant of my peers.
I think this is preventable by correcting and pointing out injustice with anger. It may be stupid to report my friend for disrespect but it is only right. A person like that is obviously not a friend.
I used to think like a “Buddhist” that God is only mine and not extending to others.
I hate to label this, but I think that it is COWARDICE.
Any thoughts?

God is compassionate. That doesn't mean He is a pushover. He gave us commandments, and woe to those who ignore them. Ignoring the commandments means a very difficult life. It's a spiraling into desperation that leads us away from His love. When we experience disappointment whiteout remembering to love God with all our hearts, we fall into despair. The work of the devil, to lead us away from the sure knowledge of God's compassion. The God we read about in the Old Testament is often harsh. In the New Testament, we have the example of Christ Himself, but then we go too far in believing we're all going to go to the Big House at the last day. God is mercy itself, but many people leave out the notion of repentance. We must repent and remember His mercy, and call upon Him often for guidance. It's not a get out of jail free pass. I highly recommend the book "God is Not Nice" by Ulrich Lehner. It's about rejecting pop culture and relying on the Word. Good read. God bless.

Do not make the mistake that God is too gentle. You may have to wait another 50+ years to discover that. Unless you are in the right state twhen you die God will send you straight to Hell. There is nothing gentle in that.
When people do bad things or simply things that annoy you it does not mean God is to be held to account. Remember people do bad things because they choose to do them. Also remember that the Devil and his demons never give up tempting us to sin. You must remain strong.
It would be far better to focus on your own life, the state of your own soul and to stop complaining about other people. You need a way of finding peace in your life.
