I long ago quit keeping up with local and national news. It just saddens and maddens me and worsens my already severe anxiety and depression. I'll figure it out soon enough just living. It can't be avoided forever (unfortunately! .) Lately with all the issues in the Church, I'm feeling the same way. Like it's better not to check, not to know what's going on. So far changes have not affected my parish (or even my diocese that I know of) so it's nice to live in my happy little "cloister" of unknowing. Anyone else trying to hide from national or Church related news?

Fear not, we will only present edifying news articles in this forum, and the members have voted against starting any "world news" section for the time being.
As for the Church news, remember that most (not all) of the folks reporting on current controversies are, after all, journalists (even if they're running blogs rather than newspapers). They are not more holy or more circumspect than the secular press simply because they report on the Church. They know that controversy sells and that "Man bites dog" is news. Apart from a few reliable sources (such as EWTN), it's best to stay away from them because they either have an agenda, or are trying to generate clicks / increase donations.

Political news in the US has gone completely bonkers, as to the liberal press. To give two examples: in one case an individual (in about the last 4 weeks) was being deported, and the liberal press howled. They simply forgot to report the fact that the individual was a convicted felon, their implications of the parent being separated from children being the focus.
In another set of misdirection in reporting, @ 680 individuals were deported; the news made it sound like thousands of illegal aliens (with no other qualifiers) were heading out of country courtesy of government intervention. The reality was all not only were illegal aliens but were all convicted of crimes, and the total was @ 680, not thousands.
McCarthy was a right wing wacko; but it seems that the Left Press has gone back and studied the hysteria of that time and is hell bent for election to replicate the condemnation and conviction by innuendo that was so artfully played out during the McCarthy hearings. Truth has been sacrificed at the altar of "resistance".
