Is it a sin to be named after a doctor of the church..and hate needles? No sin. Not at all. Doctor originally meant scholar or teacher. We trace the origin of the word to "Medieval Latin doctor, from Latin, teacher, from docēre to teach" (Merriam-Webster.com). It was used as an academic title for centuries. It was with some reluctance that the term was first applied to medicine, as medical practice only a century ago was rife with superstition and fraud. Think leeches. Think snake oil salesmen. In other words, the medical profession hijacked the title of doctor. Following a current trend, one might even say they are "fake doctors." The real doctors today have the letters Ph.D. following their names. Is it a sin to give in to sin more easily right now, with the intention of repenting all the more when Lent comes?

Cardinal Sitzpinkler replies that while this deplorable idea is common among the laity, it also forms the basis for such customs as Mardi Gras and hence cannot be condemned too strongly. He recommends eating a lot of pancakes and reading the Sermons of St. Augustine as a corrective, but he was chuckling while writing out this recommendation.
Is it a sin to lurk on forums that you have no intention of joining?

Is it a sin to suggest the confirmation name De Sales because you want your child to always get a bargin?

Sister Betsy Ross says that they're not that kind of Doctors, although St. Teresa of Avila was once quote as saying "take two rosaries and call me in the morning". Is it a sin to waste time at work but happily chatting wit friends at commonsense? (Which, happily has the same initials as our Catechism?) CCC anyone?

Is it a sin to be a transparent socker puppet with one user profile as long you promise to not always agree with yourself?

Speaking of Lent..Is it a sin to eat animal crackers on Fridays? Yes, that could be a problem, says Sister Adamantine. Better to eat oyster crackers. Shortly after I woke, a song bubbled up from my memory and has been playing inside my head all morning, so I ask: Is it a sin to think of Ashes to Ashes, by David Bowie, on Ash Wednesday?

Is it a sin to eat a bagel today? If you are going to eat, that is, if you are not dedicated to a complete fast, a bagel would be acceptable, and most appropriate indeed, since it is holey. Is it a sin to reuse that tired old wordplay?
