I wonder how much the upcoming NABRE translation will be different from the current one. NABRE is my Bible for memorization. Also wonder if the much controversial footnotes and commentary will be the same. For the most part I have no issues with the footnotes and commentary. There are some theological points that make me cringe but most of it along with the historical and linguistic commentary is helpful. Here is a website with reviews of new Bible releases. catholicbibletalk.com/Luke 6:27-31 1 John 4:7-21

The goal is to come up with an edition that can be used for individual prayer, catechism, and liturgy.
The footnotes, etc., are meant for academic purposes and scholarship, but the owners require them to be included with any publication.
I suppose if there are enough requests, then they can drop that requirement for the new edition.

I'm not sure why a new one is needed for liturgy, prayer, and Catechism. The current translations seem fine for that. The NABRE isn't even used for the liturgy. The Mass readings differ from the NABRE. Someone said the Mass readings are taken from the older NAB. I'm not sure they are exact duplicates of that either. Footnotes and commentary are useful to many people not just scholars. The current ones are probably outdated in some aspects to scholars anyway.

I think that's the point: the Mass readings differ from NABRE because there are liturgical issues with the latter. At the same time, NABRE still requires revision due to updated scholarship.

This might be off topic but does anyone have the current The Word Among Us booklet? In my copy the readings from March 24 to March 29 are missing. After March 23 the next readings are for March 30. I can always read them in my Bible but I also like to read the Collect and the other prayers and antiphons. I'm not on line everyday so I can't and don't really want to read them online. None of the meditations are missing.

You've prompted me to take a cursory spin (on Wikipedia) through the various Latin Vulgates (Sixtine, Clementine, et al), quite the education. I'll be interested in looking more into it. Mine is the edition published in Madrid, IIRC mid-20th century, white clothbound hardback. I am assuming it is the Clementine. It's at my other house (I think) so I don't have it handy just at the moment. Thanks for the information.
