My mother had to be rushed to the hospital this evening after an acute episode at home. It came on very suddenly, and she was in such dire straits, I fully expected her not to survive the trip (20 miles, the closest hospital available on such short notice), but she is resting comfortably, and her vital signs look good.
We hope for her to be back home in a few days. She turned 93 last Saturday, and she is an incredibly mentally active woman who is only held back by physical infirmity that prevents her from walking and has robbed her of most of her vision.
Prayers much appreciated.

Oh I'm so sorry to hear this! Praying! Let us know if you need a Divine Mercy Chaplet said for her.

CCS may be "Catholic Fight Club" now and then --- and I'm not so sure that's a bad thing --- but in a situation like this, we're all always there for each other.

Lord by your hands, heal this mother and may she return to her loved ones. May she and her family walk strong in Jesus word, in your name, Jesus amen!

Most merciful Father, your beloved Son showed special compassion to lepers, tenderness to those long sick, and healing to the infirm laid before him. We place before you all those who are ill and in need of Your healing grace, especially the Mother of HSD. May the love and mercy of the Divine Physician raise up all who suffer from sickness or infirmity and restore them to health and peace. We ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen
Lord Jesus, as infants You partnered with our parents attending in loving care to our needs. The Mother of HSD is now elderly and infirmed and I ask that You partner with him in giving her the same tender loving care. Give him the strength to be fully present for his mother and lovingly tend to her needs and the wisdom to take time out to tend to his own physical, emotional and spiritual needs as he cares for her. Amen.

Progress report: my mother is still with us, and has not gotten any worse, though she is still on a ventilator. The priest who offers our diocesan TLM came this afternoon and administered Extreme Unction. We are entering the nighttime here.
Continued prayers much appreciated.

Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion — inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself.

Progress report: as of this writing, my mother is doing well. The priest who offers the TLM in our area came to the hospital yesterday and administered the traditional Latin rite of Extreme Unction, which my mother received extremely well in full consciousness, though she was still on the ventilator and could not speak. He visited with her for awhile and was truly pastoral in the kindest way. Late last night, they removed the ventilator, and, Deo gratias, she was then able to breathe perfectly well on her own, and was alert and able to talk. It could have gone either way, and I was informed of this possibility before they removed it, but, again, she survived this, and asked to know where she was, because either they had not told her, or they had told her and it didn’t register. My son and I are going to see her later today (20 miles away in the next county, the only facility available on such short notice).
Continued prayers appreciated.

I visited her this afternoon, and she was full of life, talking a blue streak, opinions and strongly felt wishes one right after the other. IOW, her old self. The hospital has cleared her to transfer out of intensive care and into a regular hospital room, they just have to get a room cleared out for her. She has improved remarkably, not totally out of the woods, but we fully expect for her to return home in a few days.

My mother continues to improve, and is alert and talking vigorously with absolutely no loss of mental faculties, aside from a raspy throat from the ventilator having been for over 24 hours, she is back to normal in that respect. They have begun in-room physical therapy and have had her sitting up in a chair. She is only still in ICU because the hospital has no other rooms, she will get a regular room as soon as they are able to clear one out for her. My son and I are going to see her later today.
As I write this, a Traditional Latin Mass is being offered for my father’s repose, I had hoped to be able to get there, but it didn’t happen, too far away and too many other demands today. I think the priest who administered Extreme Unction might be a little irked with me if I did attend, he said that my mother’s situation is top priority right now.

Progress report: my mother is doing much better, and is set to be released from the hospital tomorrow, to be transferred to the same rehab center, nearer our home, that she went to in April. She is apparently now out of mortal danger; we expected that Friday might be the last day of her earthly life, if they'd removed the ventilator and she had not been able to breathe --- she wished no extraordinary artificial means of life support --- but thankfully she is breathing normally and does not even need to take oxygen anymore. She has lost absolutely none of her mental faculties, and is as sharp as she ever was. At age 93, she has the mental acuity of a woman one-third her age.
We hope to have her back home in a few days, in time to celebrate Christmas with my son and me.
Thanks to everyone for your continued prayers.

Sorry to hear this. I'm pleased your mother is improving. It never ceases to amaze me how the elderly can rally after serious illness. On 26th March this year we were all sat around my mother in an emergency department waiting for her to die. Staff had dispensed with the restriction on number of visitors so we could all come and say our goodbyes. It's now December and my mother is fully recovered. She has no recollection of it and we think she doesn't believe us that she was so mortally sick.
Asking our Blessed Lady to give your mother the health and strength to return to her family for the feast of Our Lady's Sons' Birth. May Mary and the angels asist us all.

Progress report: my mother is scheduled to come home from rehab on Tuesday 19 December. I visited her today and was able to attend Mass and receive communion for the first time in several months downtown near the hospital. I also went to confession, again, for the first time in several months, on Saturday.
While my mother is progressing nicely with rehab, she is quite despondent over the condition she has gotten in, so prayers for this intention are appreciated as well.
